I did an occasional load for Rebel here and there. I wonder if you know of a driver who was at Rebel by name of Dale Fleming? And if so, where he is now? Worked with him too.

Ice road trucking is much safer than mountains. Water doesn't run uphill and you drive much faster than 30 MPH. If speed kills ice road truckers will live however. Seriously, there is a big difference running ice roads and running on ice. ie; (Lake and river ice)
Licensed to kill Thanks this. -
Drove for KAPS in early 70's out of Anchorage until they closed the office, because of teamsters always on strike, and moved us into a trailer in Fairbanks. Lotta shooting going on back then. Lotta teamster safety meetings
Wymon Thanks this. -
"Safety Meetings!" I remember them well-never heard more whining in my life! The Haul Road was like a super highway to most of us old homesteaders and we were making more money than we had ever made in our lives.

Having driven on some of those roads, i don't know how any driver can consider them difficult. As for the tv show I would not let drivers that bad even start my truck, forget drive it.
Going up there is like a vacation compared to many of the roads down here.Phantom Trucker, Wymon and SteerTire Thank this. -
I hauled explosives exclusively on ice roads so I was the first truck in every season in order to get a years worth of powder in and frequently they would have equipment waiting to assist me in areas where they knew I may well break through.
There is little challenge when you are regulated to 25 MPH and a set of singles on your drives as well as your trailer.

I drove a Foremost Delta 3 in the 70's-looks a lot like that one-hauled freight and fuel from Deadhorse to remote crewsLast edited: Nov 19, 2018
