Crazy securement you have seen?

There's the difference between you and me. I secure every single load with that car in mind. Loads don't shift because a car pulls out in front of me and hits the brakes. If a load shifts its because i failed to do my job and properly secure it.

 

When did this go from crazy securement to "maybe slightly inadequate securement"?

 

...and PROPER securement would have prevented that load from shifting.

§393.136 (c) General tiedown requirements. (1) Only chain may be used as tiedowns to secure large boulders.

 

Lol good try. Why don't you quote the entire regulation? Maybe because it only applies to boulders weighing more then 11,000 pounds? I had 24 rocks on so you're saying I had at least 264,000 pounds on the deck?

(1) The rules in this section are applicable to the transpor- tation of any large piece of natural, irregularly shaped rock weighing in ex- cess of 5,000 kg (11,000 lb.) or with a vol- ume in excess of 2 cubic-meters on an open vehicle, or in a vehicle whose sides are not designed and rated to con- tain such cargo.

 

That load shifted 6" forward after the 4x6's fell from 6" to 4" tall. The car didn't hit his brakes in front of me.

I was heading north on a 2 lane at 70 miles an hour. He was southbound sitting on the shoulder just south of a road. I was about 500 feet away from him when he did a u turn in front of me and came to a complete stop to make a left onto the road he just missed.

I guess I should have seen that idiot move coming right?

 

A few pages ago when some know-it-all came in here claiming a truck with proper securement was "working too hard".

You prepare for those idiot moves with pepper securement. You never know when an idiot is going to pull a stupid stunt like that so you secure your load assuming you will encounter one of those idiots.

As far as boulders and chains go... your good on the weight, but they certainly appear to be more than 2 cubic meters in volume. But I'm not there to measure them. HxWxL equals volume.

Edit to add: dunnage is never to be taller than it is wide because.... it has a tendency to roll over. Exactly what happened to you.

 

Perhaps you shouldn't have been going 70 on a 2-lane. Missouri 2-lanes only top out at 60 mph. Arkansas, Illinois, and Iowa are all 55 mph.

 

It's talking about singular stones that size, not aggregate.
