I was thinking of using a bearcat980 ssb as a cb with a Wilson 2000 ant, anyone have recommendations? Will be used in a 2013 Mack , would probably mount on mirror mount. Any ideas?

I have been using the Bearcat 980 for almost two years now and its been a really good radio. I use the 980 stock and it has a carrier of 3 to 3.5 watts and modulation is around 90% but the most mentioned compliment is how clear the audio is with the provided stock mic which is a noise canceling mic. The mic is a 6 pin but uniden does include a 6 pin to 4 pin adapter if you would like to use a different mic, I have used a RF Limited 2018 power mic and it worked really good but I prefer the stock mic. The receive is excellent and white noise level is minimal. If you like to use ssb it is very stable and mine came stock at 12 watts and when skip is rolling I have no problem making contacts. I have used the Wilson 2000 antenna on several trucks in the past 20 years and its an excellent antenna, some will say that the newer ones ( barjan junk) are not the same quality as the previous ones I cant agree or disagree with that you will just have to decide for yourself. When mounted on top of mirror I always used the 10" shaft to get the coil up higher, and it was never difficult to set swr just simply loosen allen screw and either raise whip or trim whip. Receive , from my experience, was always very good and the antenna was not to heavy to stress the stock mount. Hope this helps.

I would measure from the ground to the mounting location and subtract the measurement from 13'6" then purchase a center loaded antenna that equals that measurement. Good luck finding one.

I would rather purchase an anytone 6666 due to its durability and quality. It is fairly compact and packs a good punch.
