I haven't posted in a while but I have a random question...
I have my little ham shack set up but I would like to add a base radio to the mix. What are some suggestions for either a newer or older base radio (Preferably one that I could plug into a wall instead of a power supply)?
I would also like to be able to just set my Kenwood TS-2000 on top of the base radio if possible...

It's slim pickings as far as new cb base radios go. Galaxy is the only ones I know of making a base radio today, but I'm not sure about their physical size. You would need something older like a president Madison radio. Not only were they a fantastic (and still are) radio, they should be physically big enough to support a ts-2000 on top of it. Plus it has 110v power capability too.Blaskowitz Thanks this.

Just a note, galaxy radios drift badly on ssb, so i would rule them out. If you can get a used ranger base cheap enough, i would go that route. Dont set that kenwood on anything but its own 2 feet.Blaskowitz Thanks this.

Just get an old cobra or president, like a Washington, you put your 2000 right on top of it and not to have to worry too much about heat.

I got the Galaxy 2547. I had one of these a couple of years ago and liked it fine. Also, it has the variable RF power on the front so I can turn it down if I want to run power.

They are a galaxy 959 internally, half way decent.

RCI 2980wx are nice radios (if you can find one) only problem with them, is the weather channels are a bit finicky and won't work with some antenna's... One I have the weather channels worked just fine using a 5/8 ground plane antenna...but won't work with my beam... Other than that, no other issues.

I use a 2016 model, Galaxy DX 959 SSB as my base radio. It's hooked to a 22' roof top Wilson 5/8 wave antenna. I also have two Galaxy 959s in our pick up and the wife's car. The Galaxy as my basebase works just fine with the 22" antenna and the range is a lot greater than popular belief: mind you, I live near the top of a mountain so that helps. I don't need to scan because I usually monitor Ch. 19 then move up or down if there is other traffic on the frequency.
