I'm impressed with the pair of Wolverines I bought for $53.00, I want to try a pair of Justin Ropers or Red Wings to see how they hold up.

Best boots I have worn are made by Converse. Got 1st pair from a special Forces guy in Iraq. They feel like tennis shoes but have ceramic toes that will pass any safety specs. real light too. The model I have are desert camo with side zippers so you can get in and out of them quick. They also have black and low cut models. Got others form LA Police Gear. Can wear them for 12 hours and feet feel great. They range from about 35-100 bucks.

I like the Red Wings, more money but they always lasted a lot longer. I was in and out of the truck roughly 50 times a day, and up and down the loading ramp at almost every stop too, the flat just held up to serious abuse..

Duker, thats just the way I feel about my thorogoods, the first pair I ever got was from an army surplus store. I ended up doing door to door sales in them for 5 days when I was 18. The crew I was with got involved with drugs and I wanted out, so I ended up over the next week and a half walking from Lake Charles, LA to just south of Abilene, Tx. After all those miles they still held up for me until I was 20 years old. The second pair I got when I began working at the county jail (20) and kept them although I didn't maintain them very well (clean, polish, shine) for 2 years, and now I am on my 3rd pair and am 24. I really can't complain about 3 pairs of boots in 6 years, especially with the wear and tear they go through working with inmates and having to do some of the takedowns.

By the way and a lil off subject, if you ever had a time when you felt like you just couldn't pray right; go to Lake Charles and walk over that Bridge on 10 as you head out west. I am telling you it's a very religious experience.

I love my Georgia boots. They took about a few days and some mink oil to break in well, but I wear them every day.
I have had Cat boots in the past as well that lasted well and were comfortable.
I normally pay between 80 and 120 for a pair of boots, and I expect several years of hard service from them.

Thom McCanns from KMart. $40 thereabouts. My test. Two pairs, 3 years of pushing 800-1000 lb breadracks onto 53-footers, all-day loading. 10-12 hours, 8 to 10 trucks a day, 42 racks each. A hella lotta walking under load. Both pairs have minimal sole wear and the only damage on the upper part is where the steel toes have gotten clipped by the bottom of the rack cages a few times.

I am not saying they are tougher than others, I don't know. But they are tough enough for sure. Also pretty comfortable, though I keep padded inserts in them. For comparison, I was blowing out a pair of the Dr. Scholls inserts (literally turning them into mush) every 5 weeks.

    That job was no joke.

I'm with Big Duker, the Converse are great, they are very light and comfortable.....I get about 8-10 months out of a pair, when I was wearing them every day in the desert, and pay $70....... Didn't think I would like the zippers up the side but now I will not go without them.........They also have the laces in the front and the safety tow. You can get the desert tan or black........They feel like your wearing running shoes..

DON'T skimp on your boots...you will be living in them for hours on end. Yeah, you can save a few bucks now, but your feet will hate you for it.

I typically spend between $150 and $175 for new boots, but they last for several years, and are comfortable as hell. Well worth the money, in my opinion.
