I tried with Conway,ABF,Averitt, Old Dominion also and was told that they are not hiring graduates, even with Pepsico, I am on waiting list for future openings with UPS for last month and half, but I must start as soon as possible because I am out of my job (laid of as inventory control) since June, so maybe it is not best solution but I have to go with Werner, so after everything I so here God help- I am gone on 12th :biggrin_2553:

Good luck Mickar. I too tried to get into ups, thought they would be busy for the holidays and if anything start part time. . . but no word.

heres another question. What about county jobs, pushing snow or road paving crews? Anyone have some insight there?

    Thanks yall!

Nov. 24th I'm off to Indianapolis for werner orientation. I decided to sign up before graduation, because one of the guys in class was told to try back later. Maybe hes DQ'd for another reason, but I was worried they were filling up.

Unless a golden horse wonders by thats where I'm headed. No other replies for pre hires yet :(

I will stay in touch for more suggestions or just to let yall know what I think. . . if it matters

Good luck and thanks for all your advice!

notarps4me makes a very good point. Very few words but they are enough to make you wonder. You really need to re-think about who you want to work for.

Well I'm still trying to find other options, but no response from other companies. Remember I live in the armpit of the USA. . . Michigan. No work here unless you have a ski mask, wrecking bar, and a get away car. Do me a favor and yell at your boss for me, tell him you know this guy thats ready to roll :)

thanks all I appreciate any and all advice!

I understand your position of needing to start. I am sorry your options are so limited and you must go with Werner. I have been with them solo now for 359 days. Just thought I would try to give you some insight as to what you may expect from my position. What I say may or may not be what you experience, just my thoughts and insight from what I have seen and experienced myself.

First off I work a dedicated account and have my entire time being solo with them and things are probably better for me than the average Werner employee right now. I work 6 days a week, off 1, and average between $750-900 gross per week. I have made at least this the entire year I have been here. I spent 5 months on the road with this account and am currently in a day cab and home everyday. I did make even more than this for 4 months until they realized some people were happy with their job and cut the pay by nearly 25% for the day cabs. This would not have bothered me nearly as much as it did if they had a good reason, the reason given was it's just the way it is.

Now on to what I believe you may expect to deal with. If you make it throught the boredom of orientation you may have to wait in the hotel for up to 2 weeks or more to get on with a trainer. You may get lucky and get out sooner, but you may not either.

Once you get on with a trainer hope you get a good one as they are making it harder to switch trainers. I know several trainers on my account and they tell me they have changed the way things are and it is very difficult for them to get rid of a bad student as well. Yes there are some good trainers as I had no problems with mine, but there are some bad ones as well so best of luck with this. Do not be afraid to stand up for yourself with your trainer. They are the boss, but you are not a slave even though you may feel like it a times.

After you are on the trainer truck be prepared to stay there quite some time. Whatever time they tell you is required, be prepared to add at least 50 hours to that as well. I would not believe the reasons they give as to why, but just expect them to want you on longer. They will not care if you quit as they have somebody waiting in the hotel to replace you.

If you can make it through the training, try your best to get on a dedicated account. In my opinion this is your best option for making any money right now. I would stay away from Midwest regional as most I know that have worked this find themselves starving. Have talked to few that have done OK here but not the norm.

One more thing I can tell you is be prepared to be mad. As a driver here you will be a number. At times you will feel they have lost your number and forgot that it exists. If you can deal with the crap they throw you and work through it, you can do OK depending on what your needs are. If you need a high income to start, just don't start you will only be mad. If you just need to get moving and make some money you may be able to do this.

Bottom line is if you come into this not expecting anything, you probably won't be let down. If you have high expectations be prepared to be let down. A lot of what happens will depend on you and how you deal with the crap they throw your way. I have been here 6 days short of a year and counting. Yes I am looking for other work daily, but I have a family and bills to pay so I will stay until something better comes along. This has not been the best year of my life, but nor has it been my worst. Be prepared for big changes in your lifestyle but keep a positive outlook and hopefully it will work out for you.

    Best of luck
