Going to be putting driver in my Columbia in October. Being that the truck is an 05,.. it will need to be ELD compliant by Dec. Or grandfathered in with an AOBRD.
I understand the difference between the two. What I do not know,.. is who makes what and what are you guys using? I am looking for something my driver can edit in case he forgets to change his duty status or for what ever reason,.. screws something up and is not stuck sitting out of hours when he could be rolling.
What are you guys using now? What is the easiest to learn? AOBRD for dummy's would be perfect for someone like me. I obviously need to learn this thing to so I know what he is talking about.
Is there a website with a list of manufacturers and descriptions for what each device is and what it does?
Thanks.

Im Just as confused as you Hurst- I Know nothing about this electronic world we live in today-
Have the 1999/older Model Trucks Jumped up in value yet?
I Might just retire,Who KnowsHurst Thanks this. -
I hate to see my Columbia just sit. The tires it rolls on are worth more than its resale value. So I have a guy eager to jump in it. See how he does. Let my carrier dispatch him.
I just dont want to get caught with my pants down with all this ELD nonsense. If it goes well I'll buy a newer truck and put another driver in it. If not,.. I'll sell my old hoopty and just run the KW.

If he truck is going to be leased to the carrier you're with now, wouldn't it be his responsibility to figure out which device to use? What is he going to use in his company trucks?

He has 3 RGN's rolling. No other trucks. All O/O's or drivers, driving for O/O's using his authority.
He said something to me about ELD's last January but I didnt pay attention because I had no intention of using ELD. He seemed fine with me buying an older truck. Just said to be careful with what ever I buy.
I Was just curious what other guys who are operating like I am are using. Every time I do a search for these things, I just find legal mumbo jumbo with FMCSA statutes.
I look at devices,.. but I have no idea if they are going to be legal or not. If they are considered an ELD or AOBRD or what? I've put myself out of the loop because I wasnt going to ever buy one much less ever use one.
Now I find myself in a unique position where I want to try buying a few more trucks and put drivers in them and see if there is any money to be made. Or if I should have just listened to the old timers and just stayed solo. I'll try 1 or 2 trucks,.. they are going to either kill me or make me. See how it goes.
There has to be a website somewhere that compares the different ELD's and AOBRD's. I need to see price, if they meet FMSA standards and how driver friendly and idiot proof they are.
EDIT::
I also want something I can buy and own outright. I dont want something that requires a monthly subscription.

I will look into that.

I would check out VDO roadlog. You own it, no subscription unless you choose to connect wirelessly. Which if I was buying one I would get the one with the wireless option but not use it. Just in case the mandate changes in the future that requires that.

a week a go I spoke with keeptruckin sales men and ordered my device with basic $20 per mount subscription. He told me that the device can be used as AOBRD because it has that capacity and I have ordered before dead line. He said when you add the device to your fleet make sure to check AOBRD option if you want it.
