Your killing me smalls! lol (sandlot)

If your going to run like your describing then why not lease onto someone and lower your costs significantly?

What is your cost to run your truck while under a load? Ok, now that is your cost to DH minus better fuel economy to run empty!

I never understand why folks only count fuel and/or maintenance when figuring DH costs.

So do you then prorate and increase your loaded costs to offset not figuring all costs for every mile?

You have to start thinking like a fleet owner vs a truck owner/driver. What if you were paying your driver 50 cents plus 5 cents for payroll match and workmans comp? So now your DH seems much more costly! (And realistic)

Seriously, I'm not here to bust balls, I'm here to learn just like everyone else. Sometimes I just can't help but put my 2 cents in.

I generalized by saying that running a truck; fuel + maintenance based on the past costs and mileage is 60 cents and I don't differentiate between loaded or empty. Just a rough figure of what it costs when the wheels roll. I guess, I did not phrase it clearly. How does the wear and tear do when you have 45k on the trailer vs 10k or empty would be interesting to see + terrain altitude changes, but I can see already that by staying Midwest and regional where there is much less head winds and climbs (by quitting doing runs to the West Cost) the fuel mileage increased by 0.8 mpg with the same average load weight.

I'm empty 50% of the time (gas tankers) I only look at what I made for the day. I start getting pissed at anything less than $1000 whether I ran 300 miles or 600

I guess, deadheading is in the nature of hauling a tanker in general, be it gas or milk (?)

I've always been curious how tanker worked from an O/O stand point. I see trucks like Indian River based out of Fla and see them all over the place. Wondered if those drivers actually came out of Fla or were they operating in that specific area or what?

Indian river has been advertising regional runs in Reno for o/o's so I'm sure they have the same elsewhere

Wow, I see a Lebanon IN to Lake City FL 860 miles reefer for $4000! Paging @boredsocial for insight..

I just paid over 4/mi for a reefer haz to the island. Rates out the roof my friends. Keep on pushing and we as a whole may have a lasting effect on overall rates. Trucking in general deserves this!

A 9 series freight brokerage underbid something and their main customer is now threatening to fire them if they don't find a truck?

All kidding aside someone should put that guy out of his misery lol.
