The Fuel Hauler Thread

We are hiring like crazy in Northern Cali. Running tons of Jet A up to Oregon for the fires.

 

So CFL bought or merged with Apex apparently. That's too bad because Apex had some of the sickest trucks and CFL some of the worst. Apex's matte blue and black truck is the nicest truck in so cal IMO. r.i.p. apex fuels.

 

In all the racks around Columbus, Cincinnati, and Dayton, the trucks coming in have trainees in them. A lot of the trainees are old guys, too. I'm an old guy, and they just cut me loose recently.

It's still not as much fun as it used to be, but I'm still just getting used to trucking again.

 

Everyone is old. I'm in my early 30s and I think I'm our youngest driver now. There was one guy younger than me but he got canned. Probably a good thing. I've read articles about what we're going to do when trucks drive themselves and we have millions of unemployed drivers. The average truck driver age is 49 and the average life truck driver life expectancy is 61. So wait 12 years and every truck driver, on average, will be dead ... no employment crisis!

 

Yea those are nice. Hopefully they aren't treated as poorly the private fleet trucks. But they do look dirtier than they used to. Speaking of United tho, they park across the street now at the oil plant. I guess they closed the gardena yard.

 

Has anyone worked under a declaration of emergency log exemption? Doing some Hurricane Relief work and I'm wondering if when I'm done does that time count against my 70 when I go back running to normal? Am I able to head home under the exemption? Not really getting any straight answers from anyone around here.

8. Upon termination of direct assistance to the emergency relief effort, the motor carrier and driver are subject to the requirements of 49 CFR Parts 390 through 399, except that a driver may return empty to the motor carrier's terminal or the driver's normal work reporting location under the terms of the declaration. Direct assistance terminates when a driver or commercial motor vehicle is used in interstate commerce to transport cargo not in direct furtherance of the emergency relief efforts. Upon return to the terminal or other location, such driver must be relieved of all duty and responsibilities.

9. Upon termination of direct assistance to the emergency relief effort, no motor carrier shall require or permit any driver used by it to drive, nor shall any such driver drive in interstate commerce until the driver has met the minimum hours off duty requirements of 49 CFR {395.3 (property carriers), and 395.5 (passenger carriers).
