Why do so many Americans hate European trucks?

Not sure what else needs to be done , but the trailer lights and ABS here take 12V not 24 V .

No way it can be done due to emission laws.

Peter looking around online there seem to be several Scanias, mainly in the North East, and I believe I saw one hauling for ERB and one with a Land Star trailer behind so they must be something that can be done. I would have thought that considering how "green" the Euros seem to be that the laws regarding emissions would be tighter, but maybe I'm wrong. There is also a Dutch guy who spent a year here just driving around the country, just seems odd that's all

I didn't mean to suggest that European trucks do not have the same emissions standards, but to sell them here they would have to go through whatever certification process there is.

Those Scanias were actually sold here in the late '80s. Would like to have one...

The paperwork involved with importing a vehicle is daunting, but not impossible. The easiest is doing it from Canada with essentially American vehicles.

To do it with European trucks, you would need to get a letter from the manufacturer that the emissions are the same and comply with EPA standards for the year of manufacture. You would also need a letter that it is in compliance with NHTSA regulations for the year of manufacture.

As there are essentially no foreign made class 8 vehicles sold in the U.S., those 2 things may be difficult to achieve.

I have often wondered about the rough shifts on Allison autos , from aircraft tugs to city buses I have often thought the side shafts or prop shafts must fail very often.

    this cab is called cr20h

it is what fleets buy, it have small engine tunnel of 6inch, also if you spec truck for fuel you will buy this cab. there is flat floor in scania, i am not fan of flat floor, this is lower to get inside, dont spread dirt and water in cab....so i would buy this one, it is well dimmensioned for average need in europe

this cab have 40inch wide bed, so it is not day cab, it is quite spacios, and most things are really nice, if not industry leading- which is not strange as this is brand new generation.

    my complains go on:
-front axle is moved 2 inch forward and steps become narrower than before, doors have bulge
for bottles or similar( and to fit floor recess due to steps horisontal poss.), so this obstruct entrance little bit, not as much as in volvo, steps are well placed in terms of horisontal poss. in MB steps are too steep, table in front of passenger is harder to use than before. too many bottons on gearshift lever(but it exists in 12 different versions), and extension of lower bed is harder than before.

anyway this truck is about 10-15 years ahead in technology of anything that runs on us roads.
and scania sent it there so navistar can try its technology , as vw is going to buy them too....
