I bought a van once. Immediately cut the axles and landing gear off. Made a nice shed. I think I'll stick with open deck.

Schneider is better set up than Landstar, I'll go 100 miles, at Landstar it can be 300( atlanta Georgia to Mariana, fl) to get an empty. And I have my own flatbed now so I don't have that problem. Another problem is that the trailers are nice but to many drivers don't want to get thing fixed.
One time a had a drop and hook on the delivery the agent said they had 6 trailers at a Home Depot DC. When I get there, I can only find 1 trailer. And it has a tire that has been worn to the steel belts. What is a driver to do so I got and called roadside to bring me some tires. While waiting in line I was trying to book a load but the agent would book it till I had an empty.
So form that point on i really didn't drop and hook on the delivery side, and I really didn't like it on the pick up either, but would do it for a few agents the are honest.

I have done way more open-deck than van over the last 30 yrs. Definitely more BS in van work.

I know what you mean. I really can't blame them for not wanting to get trailers fixed. The trailer maintenance department is terrible. An hour on hold, then 3.5 hrs to get 2 tires approved, after the girl at the Petro sent pictures 3 times. 5.5 hrs total...

I gotta get my own wagon!!!! I could have mounted 2 tires on the side of the road with a 4way lug wrench in an hour.....

What's you point exactly? Are persons running under LS Authority, pulling their trailers, allowed to book loads pulling LS outside of LS.

Honest question because the one company I pulled for under their authority, using their trailers, wouldn't allow it.

I was stuck hauling their customer's freight in their trailers being dispatched by their dimwits ;-)

I was just picking at you boss. You deal with brokers who are DIMWITS and LYING SCUMBAGS. At Landstar some agents are DIMWITS and LYING SCUMBAGS. LS is no different than dealing with brokers, you just have to pick out the decent agents and leave the rest alone.

And, I haven't done it, but you can find a load from a broker if you want to, you just have to run it thru an agent. Really no need to though, there are plenty of loads in the LS system without doing that. You just have to stay in the heavy freight lanes..

I know what you mean about being dispatched by DIMWITS, I did that once many years ago for a very short time. Never again!!!

Yeah, I was really addressing being controlled and dispatched by a dimwit & scumbag who after the fact, lies through their teeth about whatever it is that puts you in a bad way.

Fortunately, I've been pretty lucky in the last 21 mos of having my own authority. If I run into a dimwit or scumbag, I just cross them off the list ;-)

So basically the name of the game is getting your own authority and conot acting enough freight brokers to keep you moving?

I'm thinking, this is a better way for me to start, initially I was thinking about statting a small fleet under a carrier and run under their authority, and have them manage, my back office, and get better insurance rates, etc, but I feel if I have my own Authority, I can get better rates and pay one of these companies like (DAT) or one of the others to manage my back office, what do you guys think?
