I wonder what truck you ended up getting for your new driver, you asked a good question and gave a lot of details but unfortunately got a bunch of useless comments...personally I would have picked the volvo with the rebuilt cummins.
BEST truck under $35000 give me your opinion old timers

If I was to pull the trigger again I would seriously consider an auction, Ritchie bros had 4 2013 lonestars with under 400000 miles immaculate condition in appearance. I know that doesn't mean anything with whats going on under the hood all 4 sold for 33,000 a apiece, and these were some decent looking rigs with full chrome package upgrade.

1989 9300 Harvester

All great "Hoods" That Will Thank You with a Weekly Grease Gun and a 3/4 Impact in loving fashion.

I'd try to find a freightliner classic even though I hate newer freightliners always liked the classic and usually and find them for 25 to 30k.
-
I doubt it

I know the international prostar with that maxxforce motor is garbage, but I never heard anything negative about the lonestar with the cummins motor. I could be wrong
-
Im Thinkin' If those Lonestars (Ugly trux) were Cummins- They'd be 40k a piece,If Not more
Unless,Of Course they never put those maxx motors in them
