    Hello all,

My wife and I are currently company team drivers, and while we do rather decent for ourselves, I always keep an eye out to see if I can improve our situation. We haul expedited freight (often hazmat) and produce mainly, and run about 6000 miles a week and net $2200-2500 a week.

I'm still trying to dig for info, but most of my questions now revolve around the mysterious load board. I've attended a couple of the webinars, but only got limited answers in between the group of mouth breathers in the group that ask asinine questions :)

I know there is relatively little team freight, but it does exist...just not sure what premium it brings. They mentioned running solo loads and delivering them early, but how often can they be rescheduled? How realistic is the goal of making $6-8k in revenue per week?

We have X endorsements, twic, passports, and will run anywhere. We are based in Birmingham AL.

I appreciate any info you guys can give. If the numbers check out then we will keep piling up money for a significant amount down on a newer truck.

The thing to do at LS, or at least it was, is to dedicate to haul explosives and ammunition.

Everything else would be a matter of bumping into the agents that run team freight. They will probably look for you to do more since teams are a small percentage of LS.

I would anticipate maybe 1-2 team loads a week and the rest are short loads you can get off fast.

Thanks, I have read about the possibility of doing aa&e.

One thing that might benefit us is the upcoming eld mandate, but who knows.

I suppose that if we went ahead with this we would haul a Landstar trailer for a while to see if drop and hook or live works better. If it's a toss up we will pay cash for a trailer once we get established.

Well what you may run into is the constant picking up trailers with problems and it is due for a 120 dot inspection. All equipment at LS is inspected every 120 days. So doing drop and hooks puts you at the mercy of the available trailer pool. There might be two trailers left to choose and both are over due on inspection. Which will cost you time to do that inspection/ get work done. It's tricky to book a reload after a drop and hook because of this, you may not get a road ready trailer

A lot of guys try to keep the same trailer long as they can or they go buy their own and reap the extra revenue %

Very good points....the extra percentage really adds up too. I was excited at first about having mor drop & hooks at our current company, but it isn't always what it is cracked up to be. The empty trailers you seeing a yard (if there are any) are the least desirable leftovers lol.

Right. Another nice thing about having your own trailer is that you can add tool boxes for extra storage of logistics equipment or tools and etc

Vans are worth 7% , flats 8% reefer might be 10%

That's another thing to consider at LS as well, if you pull a van you might as well get a reefer. You can then get into temp controlled haz-mat and etc, van loads in a reefer still rake in the extra 10% I believe

I was thinking of reefer, but there wasn't much info since it is very niche field at Landstar. Might be a good way to get in and out of Florida and other dear ends at certain times of the year.

Yeah, could be. The reefer market at LS is minimal BUT, you take in %10 extra on everything you haul. [ until ] those real reefer/ temp control haz mat comes into view. Then you get your premium plus your precentage

Landstar will not put Their trailers out of service until the Annual inspection is out.

However, they will put your own trailer out of service if the 120 day inspection is up. Go Figure
