Most folks with common sense read the atlas while parked and plan their route before driving. Slow down as you approach a split and carefully read the signs to make sure you go the correct way.

Some of the Jersey turnpike interchanges are the easiest places to miss a turn or a veer and end up all jacked up. My Garmin does a good job of indicating what's ahead and where to be, but some of those interchanges can still leave all but the most frequent users on a path they don't want to be on, even with lane guidance that's as accurate as it can be.

Copilot truck is on sale again 30% off on Google play for $99. It seem to go on sale every year this time of the year. It's the full version and work on phone or tablet.

Ugh! We have copilot on our qc if we want to use it; but I HATE it! Takes me on routes I just don't understand.. lol.. I always disable it after I see where company wants me to fuel; then, use my dezl and google maps to map out my route.. much much better: for me...:)

I will double dog devil's advocate you: Those computers are way more sophisticated and expensive than anything we mere truckers have, or may ever have, at our disposal.

We are a long way from fully automated ground transport for one reason: Even if every vehicle is automated, everything else in the environment is not. Weather, animals, kids, power outages, random road debris, construction requirements, you name it, et. cetera, ad infinitum, these will always be the hardest part of the equation.

Every time an automated vehicle screws the pooch and kills, or maims, a human the time line shifts to the right. Some of those shifts may be rather significant.

It is easier to accept the known risk than the theoretical risk. Regardless of how low that theoretical risk is projected to be. My crystal ball is no better than yours, but that is where I am putting any bets.

    Hello all,

I am coming late to the party with a question. I have searched the forum and the internet but cannot find what I am looking for. Perhaps I am not framing the question properly, but route planning seems a place to start.

Are there any apps that allow setting a maximum speed for trip planning purposes? Heading to CDL training in January, but I have a 1700 mile trip coming up next week pulling a loaded 16 foot trailer and I want to put in the speed I want to travel instead of relying on Google Maps "fastest possible route" to help determine time and distance.

    Thanks for listening,

    Taodnt

Mileage/speed you wish to travel = time

Not that I'm aware of. I've asked for much the same... a gps that factors for maximum speed as set by user, and will plot a point approximately x hours further up the current route.
