    I think it takes a while to be able to keep somewhat consistent hours. And it's harder if we don't have easy access to the pick up and delivery windows.
    But I like to run pretty much the same way - start early and shut down early enough to get decent parking.

    I delivered a load of hay today. It was a drop and all the mt trailers were swept out, which was a nice surprise.
    But when I went for my next pick up the trailer was refused because it smelled like hay.
    I was 2 miles from the JV terminal so I went for a trailer wash. Then I drove around in the parking lot with the doors open for a bit to dry and air out and then went back.

    Tried to go back.
    The gate would not let me out because their screen said I was bobtail. (I had entered the trailer number in the dropped trailer field in the Mac 1 . Never again!)
    After fighting for a bit, and even with my DM adding a note that it was OK to let me out, they made me go out and find my way back in. They had put a lock on the trailer. I had to go around and back in, then to dispatch to get re-dispatched with my original empty.

    When I got back to the shipper it still smelled like hay and was refused again. I was told to go air it out for a couple hours and let it finish drying.

    Well, by that time I would be just about out of hours on my 14, so I called my DM and asked if I could just head back to the terminal so I could let the trailer air out overnight. Then I'll pick up the load in the morning.
    He said the load is supposed to pick up today, but yes I could. "If anyone says anything, tell them to talk to me."
    The load has a good delivery window so that shouldn't be a problem.
    I'm headed to the Loveland, CO Walmart.

    Throw some coffee gounds inside trailer. Let it sit for abit and sweep it out

    Right.
    Where does one find coffee grounds while driving a truck with a 53 foot trailer in southern California?
    Or do you just have a few pounds of it handy that you would lend me, after coming here to the terminal tonight?
    We all know Walmart hates trucks around here.

    The trailer is open to air out overnight.
    If that isn't good enough in the morning I will simply have to get a different one.
    But I had this same issue very recently. I was able to air it out to be acceptable.

    And what is with Swift with these hay loads in dry vans these days?
    This is the second one this month, and there were several other Swift trucks at the shippers as well.
    I am going to refuse the next one on the grounds that it takes too much time for the clean out process.
    Pay me an extra $100 and I 'might' consider it!

    I'll just sumarize my response to that whole debacle with ####.


    Odors were always a pain in reefer. Even if the washout bay had deodorizer onions don't disappear easily. As for hay loads in a van I have no clue. The only reason typically for flat vs van is the customers unloading capability. Unless it's just something that is an absolute pain to load through a door.

    Gotta do something to keep the fleet busy.

    Apparently I've been given the SLC - Vegas route. What amazes me is that thus far they haven't had me back haul anything. But apparently they are more concerned with turn around than anything, so I guess it makes sense.

    Still working on cutting down Securement and tarping time. Been a bit more efficient every time. If it's not going to rain we don't actually have too tarp. But I have not had that luck yet.

    I always thought that was the whole point of tarping. To keep rain off.

    For the most part. But there are other reasons. Smoke isn't a big deal anymore, but protecting from diesel smoke is/was a thing.

    We cover the freightliner frame rails allegedly because they have made in Mexico on them. No reason on Earth to tarp the things.

    You tarp glass just to keep it clean and to prevent damage.

    For styrofoam style insulation you actually use it to help prevent the load from shifting or outright getting damaged in the wind.

    Bailed scrap must be tarped per DOT to prevent crap from flying off. And they do count a few careful wraps of orange mesh as a tarp in that case.

    Etc.......

    Hay loads and cow hides leaving that salt on the trailer floor that dries up are not worth the headache. Declined

    Hartwell, GA at Electrolux. I got here yesterday for my 1400 appointment only to be told they had stopped loading trucks for the day and Swift would need to have it rescheduled. So here I sit at 0715 waiting to get loaded so I can t-call it off in Memphis.
