It is not. There is a serial number on the back of your remote that matches your Qube serial. Otherwise one driver could mess up the other driver if they were parked side-by-side. King can help match a controller to a Qube if you give them the serial number. Their phone is 952-922-6889.

Hey DB...I have a stationary QUBE 2000 on the RV. If I lose power even for a second I have to re aim it. That normal?
Q2: My reception numbers aren't that hot either, 70's and 80's. That normal? It works but I think they should all be 90's.

A "Stationary Qube 2000?" The older white one with a button you press and it automatically finds the signal, right? (not the one with a remote control where you need to press the up/down and left/right buttons yourself, right?)

So, yeah, assuming you have a VQ2000 model, it has "auto-find" where it goes off an finds the satellites on its own. If it loses power, the first thing that the circuit board tells it to do when it powers back on is to perform a "home" command as the next valid action. It does this because it does not know if it was powered off for 1 second or 1 week. Homing will have it go to its stowed position which causes you to make it do a search again.

Signal strength on mobile units (King, Winegard, etc) is VERY COMMON to see 70 - 85. For a giant home oval style antenna, you should be well into the 90's on almost all of the transponders. But on that little compact mobile dish you would be lucky to ever see 90's in most cases. For instance, when we install them, a normal number here in Oregon (45th parallel on the globe) is around 83. If I see 80 - 85 then I know I have a good install on a truck or RV. The further north you go, the lower it goes. Keep in mind that you can successfully watch TV on these all they way down in the low 60's.

 

No sir, earlier than that. 2008 model with remote that you have to press on for 3 seconds to start a search. Unit requires 110 power full time, none of this everything in one cable.

I have the unit set up in my RV on my job on DTV....which reminds me, they fed me some jajah I'd like to verify. The account is setup as a RV off my active home account but I can't get any locals. DTV says I'm out of range BUT if I go to a new account at full price then I can have area locals. So I ask about getting the national news from LA or NY. ( a package ) and they say no you can't have that either cause of your location. ( WTF!! )

My cube will also run Dish and a few others. Are they more cooperative?

And my last question, settings....what config should I be running? DTV said #15 but it's not accessible from the menu so I'm running 18" on sat 101. Transponders 4, 8, 18 and 28 are all zero signal this way. TSP 20 is 51 sometimes and zero sometimes.

Disclaimer: the satellite providers seem to change their rules every week with no rhyme or reason. But with that said, here are your answers as I know them this week:

a) yes, you want it set to 18" round as the dish type. DirecTV uses the 101 satellite for mobile so that is the only one you care about. Just use transponder 1. The rest will just cause further confusion.

b) If someone has it on their truck or RV and goes more than about 100 miles from their home unit, they will lose their home network channels (NBC, ABC, CBS, FOX, etc) unless they have been granted DNS service (DIRECTV,) or call in with their current location (DISH Network)

c) FOR DIRECTV ONLY - You can apply for Distant Network Service (DNS) thru DirecTV to get the NY or the LA networks even if your home is not eligible by telling them that it is a mobile unit. They are probably going to tack on a charge for it by making that unit go on a special "mobile" account. The instructions are here: https://www.att.com/esupport/article.html#!/directv/KM1102671. If you apply and say that it is in your RV, you should get granted it. If they deny it, I would call them and start yelling because Ii have seen drivers get it that way as well.

d) Dish Network is 1/2 the size of DirecTV and are therefore more hungry to be competitive. As such, they do two significant differences. They allow "month-to-month" billing and the ability to turn it on and off month to month at will. DirecTV does not do that and they require 2-year contracts. Dish also lets you phone in when you stop somewhere and tell them your current location (if you have designated it as a mobile account unit in your account.) After you sit on hold for a bit, you get a person on the phone that will turn on the local networks wherever you are. So yes, Dish does try to cater to the mobile user more because they need to more.

e) One of the main reasons that DirecTV is so much bigger though is because they have the NFL Sunday Ticket package. So, if having your favorite team game on your TV guaranteed every week (and every other game as well) then you only get that with DirecTV. But if you don't care about that, then Dish is more friendly to mobile users. And Dish is in HD if that matters to you while DirecTV is not.
