Con Way Truckload

Must be hahahaha. I found this oil field trucking is not so bad after all , you work a legitimate 70 hours a week and are paid overtime for 30 of them.

Trucks aren't as shiny but my bank account is heavier.

 

Do Conway Truckload trucks have APU's on their trucks. And do the drivers wear uniforms.

 

No APUs currently but supposed to start including them on newly purchased trucks in '09. Will not retrofit trucks in fleet w APUs according to CEO.

As for uniforms. No uniforms. However there is somewhat of a very casual dress code but from what I can see, as casual as it is, it is not enforced in the least.

 

Does Con-way pull doubles most of the time ? Every weekend morning I see at least 6 trucks with doubles heading for the bridge, in Michigan, to go into Canada

 

Conway has two divisions:

1. Conway Truckload: This division is over the road and covers 48 states with tractor and 53' trailer.

2. Conway LTL (Less than a Truckload): This division is more local pick up and delivery and uses the smaller trucks with the short trailers for inner city deliveries and pull doubles and sometimes triples if pulling between local cities.

as to truckload division.... how are loads holding up? people still getting over 2200 miles per week?

 

Yes they are. My hubby has been steady at 2200 miles or more per week. And he's only been with Con-way Truckload for about a month. Right now he is at 2100 miles and still going.

 

I have been with a trainer for three weeks and we've done over 2500 miles per week. Don't know if this is unique to trainers or if every CWTL driver is getting the same miles. Just my limited experience.

 

I've been here 2 weeks. My first week was short because the keys were missing to the truck I was sent to recover. I had a 1600 mile week which included hazmat and NE regional pay. Plus 3 days layover pay. This week I logged over 3500 miles. It really is luck of the draw for the long loads, but think twice about turning down a load that you deem as tight using their 50 mph rule in determining time needed to deliver. Fact is that you will probably average 60 mph and if you are not the type to take multiply breaks during your 11/14 day, you will do just fine. I was at least 13 hours early with every delivery using my 60 mph rule. Take the tight load and call the moment you deem you are going to be late. Usually after the pu and first day's run, you can make a pretty accurate decision to your delivery time.

I also recommend signing up for idle aire. It will cost you $20 to get the gold card and you can charge the card with whatever amount to cash you want. The is the good thing though... you can call ahead to reserve a parking space at truck stops w/ their service. The scariest part of starting in the day is finding a parking place at night. The runners go as far as their 11 hrs and last place to park will get them... Having that option takes some of the gambling out. I've been logging over 600 + miles a day since day one..

I am very happy I came here so far. I haven't even given thought about going home yet. They deliver what they promise. The rest is up to you.
