I don't get this whole fuel complaint thing. I don't get paid to fuel my truck yet I do every week. It's not a big deal to me, and as far as little things go I've polished my truck and washed it and stuff heck I was given a rental truck to drive this week I washed that too, why not? And it wasn't like I was going out of my way the company I work for has a nice shop they paid big bucks to have an automated and manual wash bay put in and they supply all the proper tools and equipment they really did a nice job building the shop I'm waiting for my load to be released anyhow, I'll go hose off the rental truck and make it nice for my self what's the big deal and further more that $15.00 bucks there willing to pay me isn't going to change my life up or down one way or the other anyhow.

It's the truck I have to be seen in and drive why do I want to drive around in some dirty truck. So I get it to, actually if I wanted to the company I work for pays us a half an hour of pay to wash our trucks if we want, but I don't know I never really bothered to punch for that time because it seems petty to me. People like being penny wise and pound foolish. Plus I don't wash my truck everyday so it's not like this thing where I'm leaving gobs of money on the table.

Ironman11- Do you understand what Initiative actually is?It really is important in all aspects of life, not just trucking.
Did a recruiter lie/tell you that you would get paid for every minute on the job?Did they pay you hourly?Oh,wait a minute-you were OTR- thats right. You even mentioned reading about other truck driver's problems,shipper/reciever wait times,chaining,a/c not working,11 hour days,weeks-months away from home.
So- you knew about all this going into it--------now the tears.
Whoever told you that you should be PAID for inspecting the equiptment n fueling the truck--must've not been a truck driver.
    Time is money,you say.Then,may i ask-why are you driving for Werner @ .32cpm?

And-ill repeat yesterdays questions(just so i can understand you)
How many years is your OTR career?
When you quit-did you leave the truck-or did you clean it out n return it?

Ironman, all that "side work", like pre-trip, fueling, etc., is pro-rated into your base pay.

You don't like your base pay, go work somewhere else.

Eh i have 8 years in Trucking but you guys keep calling me a newb. You all sound like companies trying to convince Truckers to accept 24 hr dedication to the company. Give hrs of free work time to the company and accept it. What is and what should be are two different things. People dont value their short time on earth. Trucking business model is flawed. Businesses are getting super rich on the backs of the working people but don't want to pay up. Always excuses

    Ironman. ...
I wouldn't waste my time debating with these: drivers/ office boys
...the truth is plain & simple
As drivers ;These guys must not think much of themselves anyway these are the very same guys who have made the trucking industry what it is today.

They jump thru all the hoops, do all kinds of free work, break our laws, over look safety issues, and much more all just to get a pat on the head from there boss for 2 seconds like dogs and then they go back to their dog houses for the night and watch porn movies and have sex with themselves.

    Ironman. ..
I wouldn't waste much time trying to bring light to The facts with these types because they are mindless brain washed "highway hobos " who don't know much more than what their CEO wants them to know.
....I've got 30 +yrs experience in this field , i don't make the $ i once did for many other reasons, but this is one of them !!!!
...."keep yer chin up kid "
Don't think we are all the same, some of us DO realize what these mega- corporations are doing on capital hill
...Do what you have to do and always do your best but don't never loose your self respect for the sake of your family and your fellow countrymen! !!!

One, I doubt you even know what a business model is, much less what the business model is for trucking.

And two, you're whining about a company that is on the verge of going belly up, getting super rich.

I agree 100% with these two posts.
The good thing in MY case; I no longer have to worry about sheep doing **** for free in the "OTR" segment of this industry, because I got out and now get paid for every tenth of a minute that I'm clocked in and at work.
A company telling me "You'll get detention pay if we collect it" doesn't happen with me any more. Either these stinking companies never collected it (yah right), or they charged for the detainment of the truck and kept every freaking dime. If the tires aren't turning, you aren't earning---but nobody seems to care. It's ridiculous, and anyone that disagrees is a mindless sheep.

P.S.- Smithway Motor Express was the ONLY company (in 25 years) to pay me detention automatically whether they "collected" it or not.

Somebody must have told this girl that in school...because it's the second time she's said it (in as many days). She must have been brain - washed early.
Good for her and her acceptance of free labor.
