I have been out of trucking for about 6 years and considering returning. I also surrendered my CDL-A with all endorsements and would like some input on going back and renewing my CDL. I have done some research into Schneider and considered the tanker division or SE Reginal. I would want to be able to have a passenger and very limited handling of freight. Any ideas if Schneider would be a good match or am I fooling myself? Thanks to everyone.

In order to get your CDL back you'll need to at a minimum take all tests including road and pretrip at local DMV or equivalent.

Schneider may require you to attend an accredited cdl school then Schneider new driver training.

As for passenger, I believe Schneider won't Authorize a passenger until after 6 months of safe driving.

SE Regional I believe is anything west of I 35 essentially.

Well, I tell ya', navypoppop, after being out of a truck for over 10 years, I'd NEVER consider going back and next year, will be the 1st time in 41 years, I'm letting my CDL expire. 6 years? Probably pretty much the same crap as you're used to, 4 wheelers have gotten worse, and even videos of stupid truck drivers get posted here now and again. The only time I'd recommend someone to go back into trucking after a lapse like yours, is if you are TOTALLY out of options. With no CDL, you'll have start all over, and I guarantee, what ever pissed you off 6 years years ago, will come right back to haunt you. I'd say, don't do it. Good luck.

You will have to go to refresher school then retest for all that you gave up. Also show DOT medical compliance PLUS new Enhanced real ID act related security paperwork to submit for your CDL etc. And other things Im not up to date on. I turned mine in in 2013 and I wont be getting back into it unless somehow medical miracle installs a bionic spine or something.

If you have any association with people who do drugs illegally or have taken doctors pain meds in the past for ordinary needful wear and tear on older bodies, it will remain in your hair for about a year. Some companies will test that. So remove those people from your life and either show proof of temporary prescription from doctor and so forth or wait a year after your last pain killer. Do not refuse a hair test or any drug test at all when demanded of you.

Things have changes and not always for the better. Time has a habit of making old bad road seem like a wonderful memory.

    Bunch of Negative Nelly's! Lol!
SNI dryvan should be ok. I did have to pallet jack a few loads, but I don't remember ever palletizing a trailer.
With dryvan, you can have a passenger, but I beleive there's an age limit. For restarting ypur driving career, SNI isnt too bad. A inordinant amount of micromanaging and B.S., but coming on board as an experiences driver (just like getting back on a bicycle) you'll be leaps and bounds ahead of the brand new guys coming in. The secret about training companies is that it is so easy to get to the top of the food chain. Just delivering on time and not hitting anything pits you above 60-70% percent of your colleagues.

Trucking is still a great career, if its something you enjoy doing or if you have some other goals to achieve. If youre coming back as a last resort, or something along those lines, then you may not be happy

No Age limit, they have a 3 day refresher course to go with orientation, I started driving at 64, there was another driver that was 83 at the time, they have a lot of options,,,,, No I am not a recruiter, did work for them, they were a good fit for me,,,,,,,,,,,, 75 and still driving now, RV's, not trucks,,, same rules though.

I think we have a senior approaching 90 still running CDL.

Wonders and wonders of this world when done right for some lucky people able to do it.

    Semi Retired,
I think you hit it on the head. I just needed another driver with the years and miles to re-assure me that being retired isn't all that bad. I'll just keep going to the Reddick, Fl. Petro for coffee and talking with the current drivers and remember the good old days. Thanks
