We really don't know, we're just drivers and if our eyes are good we don't worry about the vision rules.
We don't study up on stuff that doesn't affect us.
Here's an older thread,
vision waiver
Or this one
I'm blind in one eye need help.12 ga Thanks this. -
It doesn't looks good for him, if they allow him to he mostly would be restricted to day time driving, the thing is they check both eyes

He has to get the waiver to pass the DOT physical.DOT requires at least 20/40 in each eye, unless FMCSA said otherwise.

The problem with having only one eye is that depth perception can be compromised.
An eye doctor told me this many years ago. I had an eye injury many years ago. By the GRACE OF GOD, it did fully recover.
God bless every American and their families! God bless the U.S.A.!JReding Thanks this. -
Your husband should just try anyway and jump through the hoops required. Lots of drivers out there with one eye. I met one driver with both legs blown off in Vietnam and he does just fine with artificial legs. Tell your husband to get started and give it a try.

Okay I will! Thank you! My research just talks about people who have been driving previously to having injured an eye. But I'll make him apply for a wavor! Honestly I was thinking about being a driver because of this set back but we've been discouraged! So I'll tell him to apply! Thanks for the encouragement!Chinatown Thanks this.

And all the wavers I've read about don't say anything about having one eye.. it's just what they can do with one "bad" eye so we just kind of stopped trying :/
