Looking into Roehl, before I chose a carrier togo with.

Division is largely based on where you live and which terminal you go to for CDL school or orientation.

I wanted flatbed, but for a couple of reasons, I was only able to get dry van. I've been told that some time after training you can switch divisions if you desire, there's a poaition available in that fleet, and possibly if that type of freight is in your area (for hometime reasons).

I've talked to several flatbedders with Roehl and they've told me there's not much flatbed freight going to my area, so getting hometime would be a bear. Don't get me wrong, I'm not giving up on it, I may just have to put it off for a while so I can gain some driving experience and find out more about Roehl's flatbed lanes.

 

Roehl has never developed a good flat bed business in Texas. They have tried for at least 10 years and never got into the freight lanes. Since getting home would be a problem I would suggest looking into one of the known flat bed carriers like TMC and Maverick, just to name a few. Don't believe Roehl in that you can change fleets in a few months. There won't be an opening because of your home location and their van division is the largest fleet.

 

Roehl is ok IF you wanna be an OTR van or Reefer driver. For a flatbedder, I'd find somewhere else.

Plus the whole 63mph trucks, company routing, driver facing cameras, and general hand holding and babysitting things.

I ran with Roehl for about six weeks before I got terminated. Not one of my favorite carriers.

 

I would avoid TMC, I have known a number of drivers there who got cataracts and other eye related problems, most likely caused by their chrome mudflaps which reflects sunlights especially when moving around and in their terminal when you're driving behind other TMC trucks

 

Your division is chosen before you train. If you live in Upland, the last I heard Roehl only does flatbed out there. Roehl has International LT's and Frieghtliner Cascadia's usually ISX Cummins in the LT's and DD15 in FL. They are a mix of Standard and Automated transmissions. I believe Roehl is at about 20-30 % Auto. Call the jobline and ask. You probably won't get to choose your truck. they may have some different hometime fleets.
