Let's discuss mpg. What do you get?

Some are diesel.

 

My Silverado 2500HD gets 14.3 mpg if I keep it 65 or under on the highway.

 

Gas ####, I anit putting gas in my ISX.

 

I'm lucky to break 8 mpg with a 6.7L Powerstroke F550 loaded to 18,000lbs gross.

 

According to my lie o meter I get 10.9 avg on my 2012 f-550 6.7 with 16ft box at about 17,500lbs but I do drive like an old lady compared with most

 

Our Owner Operators IFTA reports have averaged 10 mpg for many years now. The 2005 Dodge that I use to have , Cummings 2wd with 4:10 rear end gear ratio average 14 mpg. Wish I would've kept that truck. Bought a new one in 2015, 4wd, 3.73's and under a load it averages 10 mpg. I rarely go over 60 mph here in California. I wanted 4.10's but couldn't find any near where I'm based. The next truck will have them.

We pull 3 axle Lowboys, 40' of deck space, and our loads weigh anywhere from 4,000 lbs upto 15,500 lbs.

 

A 2wd pickup only has 1 ring & pinion that would have to be changed. You could buy the gearset you want along with all of the other items necessary for under a grand and do the swap in your driveway in a couple hours. Hell, add a locker or limited slip diff for a couple hundred more (if your diffs are currently open) while you're in there for the extra traction since it IS only a 2wd truck. Absolutely no reason to NOT have the specs you want when they are that easy to fix.

 

Im into jeeping, been down the gear swap road a time or two. My 2015 ram is a 4x4 and it's still under warranty. I'm in the office all the time these days so it's a low mileage truck, only have 40,000 on it right now. If I still have it when my bumper to bumper extended warranty is gone I may consider a re gear. That's only if I could buy a factory set though. The aftermarket gear sets these days tend to howl and growl.
