It would be good, even though your past all this, to right your representatives about the problem, and tell them it is an INDUSTRY problem. There are enough drivers being ripped off that something could be done. Everyone just needs to incorporate it in to their mentality to write your rep's on this kinda of stuff. :biggrin_25517:

I hope you will write them for yourself and for others. :yes2557:

Enjoy your new job and remember there's someone like you that's going to get ripped and getting rip off right now. :biggrin_25526:

Georgia joker wrote a good post on what companies are doing to people. He's got years of driving background. He says what I believe companies are doing. I call it "churning drivers", using new guys as cheap team drivers and or cheap solo drivers. After they get their one year in as a cheap driver they are forced out of the company, loads are cut back, left to sit waitng for loads, or fired for trumped up stuff.

Go read jokers piece. It's on "Report bad companies", thread "who's the worst of them all". :yes2557:

I DIDN'T MEAN TO CLICK ON MY OWN POST. Sorry about that

MANNMK7 you are so right. I have run into drivers that are driving for the same company that owe my husband and me money right now. Drivers that are new drivers who do not know that they are about to become victims. It usually takes a few months for the new drivers to realize what is going on because Expedite Solutions pays drivers once a month. So the first month the drivers think it is a mistake, the second month, they start getting wary, the third month, they start to realize (hmmm something is not right here!) When I run into these teams I tell them "when you get tired of being ripped off call one of these companys, they are honest truck owners and you will start making money". I give them several name and numbers to choose from. Truck owners that I personally know are honest and straight forward, including the owner of my truck. He owns like 30 trucks though it is harder to get on with him as his drivers usually stay with him for years, he treats his drivers good and pay is always right to the penny. These truck owners are leased with the same carriers as the drivers I try to help, so the drivers do not have to go through the orientation, drug testing, back ground check, ect again unless they choose to jump carriers. Some teams (Expedite Solutions uses teams only, no solos, they want to maximize their rip off! lol) change imediately, others (like us we stayed for 10 months, lol) take longer and lose more. We do not lie to the teams, we do tell them when they quit Kyle (owner of Expedite Solutions) will not pay them for the last 6 weeks they work, he will keep their money, including their fuel surcharge (this is how he got us for 9000.00. 6 week because he 'holds back' the first two weeks in the beginning). There have been several teams we, personally, have given money so they could change companies. It is an awful feeling to be stuck out on the road in a broken down, dilapitated, leaky truck without even enough money to buy a coke with, to wonder how your going to eat tomorrow. If a letter to rep would help put these dishonest crooks out of business you just post the address and I will get a letter out today.

They pay once a month? I thought only the government could get away with paying once a month. Paying once a month allows a business to rip people off for a whole months wages. This is why wages use to be paid once or twice a week for private companies. Don't tell me. Deregulation has allowed business to pay once a month. :biggrin_25526:

As for your rep's google them and write them, tell those you run into to do the same.

By the way it's good to hear your with a good company.

I don't know what the law on pay is for trucking companies. We (my husband and I) did not think anything about the once a month pay when we started driving as my husband was paid once a month as a Kansas police officer. I had always been self-employed owning my own business. I was a cosmotologist for 20 years. So neither my husband or I really had any experience with paychecks other then once a month. Now we get paid every week. Payday is Thursday, our money is in our checking Friday morning right to the penny. We always know exactly what it will be to the penny and it is never wrong.

A positive note. . . ya'll should see our new truck. It is sweeeet!
Far cry from what we started in. The truck Expedite Solutions put us in I had to keep the floor covered with plastic as when it rained water came up through the floor and you would find yourself standing in a puddle. (plus the carpet was soooo nasty, lol) My husband had to get out and bang the starter with a hammer (per instructions by Expedite Solutions) to get the truck to start everytime it died. It took hills at around 20 mph. We had to put oil in everyday as it leaked so bad, we bought the oil by the case. We were actually banned from a car maker because the truck leaked soooo much oil on their dock. Of course then we got upgraded. This truck had a knot on the drivers steer tire the size of an egg (which eventually blew out) which ES refused to fix. It leaked like a waterfall, no kidding, it leaked that bad and no air conditioning in June. Oh yeah, and it had cracked an worn brakes that was unsafe, I still have it in writing from the TA the truck was not safe to move, and owner refuses to fix.
Now, this truck is brand new, has a huge sleeper with a full-size bed with inner spring mattress. Large refrigderator with a seperate freezer, Microwave with browner oven, TV with dvd, mp3, and surround sound, table, 2 booths, sink with running water, nice counter, closet, and cabinets galore. This truck is sweet! See why no one leaves this guys trucks? He makes sure his drivers want to stay with him. lol

Seems alot of trucking companies get on this 1099 band wagon to avoid taxes, and avoid "furnishing" drivers with a way to stick it to them when they stick it to the driver

one thing is to not accept 1099 from the get go.

and if you do accept it, know EXACTLY what terms you need... including higher pay to compensate for increased tax liability...

I got hired for a job they originally wanted me to contract for (as 1099) but I asked for an additional 20% pay as 1099 so they put me on payroll. Told them they could afford higher pay as 1099 as they wouldn't have to pay taxes..... with the benefit off the table they went for straight employment.

(but yes, it was a non-driving job)
