We've got a 50 ton Load King folding neck trailer that we've had for years. At first, we just used it loading tracked equipment over the back or loads that were loaded with a forklift or crane. We finally got a 45,000 LB winch and mounted it, ramps, and a tail roller on our W900 so we could fold/unfold the neck. The winch setup works ok other than it has trouble raising the trailer with a heavy load on it. Since we have trouble folding the neck with our big forklifts on it, we have went back to using the trailer with just stuff that isn't loaded over the neck.
There has been times that we really need a extra trailer to move our big forklifts so I've been thinking today on a solution to our problem. I'm thinking my ramps and/or tail roller is the problem. After the neck is in the folded position, the neck still has to be raised 6-8 inches off the ground to start over the roller. That dead lift of up to 50,000 LBs is just too much for the winch. I'm thinking the neck needs to be started over the roller before the trailer starts off the ground and let the roller and ramps aid in the lifting. I've searched YouTube for videos, and there are a few, but nobody seems to have a shot of enough detail to see what's happening when the trailer lifts off the ground.
I was just wondering if anybody had any experience with a folding neck trailer that can help me figure this out.

I don't have any experience with a folding neck but have an idea.
When ever I load something "heavy" that I have to break the neck down for I always run it to the rear before picking the trailer up. Then move the load into position to axle out. It really helps with my truck since I don't have ramps yet.

That's basically what I do now but it's a single drop, with fairly short deck, and open wheel wells. Even with the lift at the back of the deck, it still isn't really enough.

I'll get a picture of the back of my winch truck when I'm back at the shop.

Put blocks under the main deck of the trailer at the front. Then lower the neck. Load. Raise the neck. Back under the trailer. Of course if the blocks get pushed deep down into the ground this won't work. Or if the neck needs to lay flat on the ground for support. Just a thought.

I thought about that and am going to try it. I'm not sure the neck will lay flat with the trailer on blocks though. One 6x9 tie block, the narrow way, should be enough.cke Thanks this.
