Stryker radios are hands down way better than the ranger/galaxy boards being sold today. I have been repairing ham and cb radios as well as tv / computers for 40 yrs. Trust me, those galaxy boards are to flimsy and come with a host of bugs that will no doubt make you irritated.

I thought I heard Mark Sherman was a good Tech. Is this not true?

I have three radios done by Mark and all get compliments on the way they sound. I have also verified this myself by recording from my truck and driving out about twenty miles in my car.

I DX with both my N4 and an Anytone Quad 6. No trouble making contacts even on the lowest power settings.

The only disadvantage to Mark is that he only does work by mail. That can be a pain when you're on the road all the time.

From what I've read and watching his YouTube videos, mr Sherman is a great tech. He's just very expensive. I think it cost a $100 bill just to mail your radio to him and back. Maybe lil can verify that.

Most of what he does is in the receiver circuit. Increase dynamic range of the AGC. Push the noise floor down as far as he can without creating front-end overload problems. Altering the audio frequency response to make it easier to hear certain tones at a greater distance. NIST traceable equipment with current up to date certifications of calibration for greater accuracy. Service monitor is up for renewal in the near future.
    Perfectly Flawless audio every time

The ability to receive weak signals at astronomically insane distances in a predictable and consistent manner..

I'm sure other people might chime in with their experiences.
I'm always looking to compare his magic with someone else's Magic if anybody feels up to the task.

I mean, is he doing this with just a good alignment using real equipment, or is he replacing parts and doing secret mods?

Funny thing is that I'm not even a tech, just a curious ham operator and I have more equipment on my bench than 99% of the so called cb shops out there... lol
