Add more trucks... Do you have any clue what you are in for on the mechanical side? EGR, DPF, SCR? Put it this way, if you want to make a million in trucking, start with three... The saying used be two million, but I had to modify it for the EPA mandated trucks. I would not do it.

And what Dave in AZ said...

One customer would not float my boat, especially knowing the costs of moving a truck down the road today. This ain't twenty years ago when we had reliable equipment. And don't get me started on drivers. When I had trucks, it took ten drivers to find a keeper... Today, I would guesstimate that one would have to hire twenty drivers to find a keeper. Just my .02, but I don't know sheet.

And when you find that 1 in 25, make sure you treat him / her like ####, so they know who is boss.

I have been running two trucks hauling sand for the last three years and made it through the slow time. I am a diesel mechanic and help manage an independent shop that puts out high quality work. The egr/dpf/def systems are a product of our government and someone is getting rich off of it. My personal slogan is "We fix what the government broke!" I once asked a Cummins rep what they were doing to fight the EPA and there reply was "Nothing." If you look at the ROI of the emission systems to help the environment, I believe the ROI is negative. Poorer fuel economy, increased pollutions from production for the components, and the pollutants didn't mysteriously disappear. They are burned out in a super concentrated form that lands on the earth's surface quicker.

It is not easy, and not a game. I have one truck, it is free and clear and I am the driver. This new bunch of drivers out here, I want nothing to do with them. They will not even take the initiative to understand the industry they work in. Enough said.

That's just laziness, and no respect for anything as a whole.
