Also,if you have a long chain it's sometimes hard to get it tight enough that a dot officer can't shake it and give you a ticket for a loose chain

What if I have the WLL covered correct, and I leave an extra chain with a minute amount of slack in it...can they ticket me?

With a 40 ton RGN with a 29 foot well, how many straps would you all recommend I carry?

    None.
Your pulling a chain freight trailer, haul chain freight with it.

    Ok, one for your blocking.

  6. only purpose for strap is for any item the customer doesnt want chain marks on the nice pretty paint. (hoods, doors securing a small attachment that cant come off the main unit)

if your shipper has prepared your item right. it shouldnt have any questonable parts that need a strap. some use straps when chain is supposed to be used.

Wouldn't y'all think I might run into something large that is not too heavy and there are no chain anchors? Maybe crated?

You will haul crates with things like signs in them that are light and will need them.

With a 40 ton you are still going to haul multiple pieces from time to time.

Regular 30' straps are going to be too short for slot of what you haul.

I used to order 40' straps to go with 4" ratchets. I also used to order 4-5 50' straps. Always order the chan ends so you can use your cut out or d-rings to tie to.

I used to carry 8-10 ratchets and a bunch of straps.

Some of the crates will be quite big, quite wide and possibly quite tall (long even), but won't weigh much at all. Without the long straps, you will have to add length of chain or hook 2 straps together to reach. Easiest thing to do is to have the 40 ft straps.

    How many?

10 is a good round number.
