That's OK, as long as it's not in the political section!:biggrin_25525:

Many people quote concealed carry laws when responding to the posts about carrying in a commercial vehicle. Many states do not require a permit to carry a weapon in a vehicle if it is kept in the open. I do not know the overall answer to this question, I have seen good arguements on either side. I also know, no matter what the correct answer is, drivers get weapons taken from then and face fines and jail for carrying a weapon in their truck.

As I said, -=MOST=- are not prepared, this is not the same as ALL.

And as any vet from 'Nam, Iraq or any of the other 'peacekeeping tours' can tell you, training and talking and thinking about it are one thing, actually DOING it is another. No, I've never had to do it, don't carry a gun in my vehicle (although I am a firm believer in the right to own guns), but I have been known to swing a fishbeater from time to time :biggrin_25525:

I don't own guns anymore. I do have a tire thumper that now stays in my car, and I have a good dog (doberman-bloodhound mix). I would have no problem using a gun to defend my safety or life though. I've done it with other things in the past.

I am not sure I would want to carry a firearm in my vehicle. Not for fear of not using it, but because I wouldn't want it stolen and traced back to me in a crime. Using a firearm is about making the choice between them or me, and the average person (1) cant make that choice easily or (2) has lifetime regrets of having made that choice.....

    Lone...

I made that choice during my military service, I don't regret it for a moment. Having made the choice and being sane (usually) I have no desire to make it again... but. I feel that in the case of someone invading my personal space (truck/car/home/property) it is they who are making the choice, not I. My reaction to THEIR choice is likely to make it their last. I suspect there are quite a few truckers on this board who have also made the choice and agree wholeheartedly with my attitude.

I have owned many guns. I hunted for food not sport and am an expert shot. I believe it is a fundamental right in this country. I now own one that is broke and my wife has a .380 that I have not even touched in 2 years.
Almost 30 years ago two drunk men that I did not even know came on my property. One was about my size and the other was hugh. The smaller one came at me saying he was going to kill me. I retreated to my porch, reached inside the door, grabbed my Marlin 17 shot .22, and told them to stop or I would shoot. The big man stopped but the other kept advancing.
I could have used deadly force but shot him in the hand.
The police came, arrested the two, gave me a ticket and took my gun. The town had a zero tolerance ordinance concerning discharging a firearm in the city. I went to court(mandatory) and the judge suspended a $25.00 fine and gave my gun back.
I made a choise to use force but not deadly. Even angry and scared I knew that I had 16 more shots if the first one was not enough. Looking back now I probably could have shot a warning shot but do not regret what I did. Later someone broke into my house while we were sleeping and I held him at gun point while waiting on the police. I was in shock when they arrested the "suspect" and took my .44 Rugar brush rifle. The man had a knife and received 10 years for breaking and entering an inhabited dwelling. I could have shot him but he got down on his knees and begged me not to shoot. I am glad I was home. I did worry about my wife but more that she would have shot without question. I got my gun back and moved to the country.
Looking back now I would have shot him. Only because I learned that the night before he was drunk and bragged to a friend that he was going to pay my wife a visit when I was gone. It just so happened that my truck broke down and was in the shop. I am glad I didnt know that then. I did talk the D.A. into bringing charges against the friend for accessory. He plea bargained a year probation.
The point is my answer to #1 and #2 in the quote and I do not carry a gun in a truck. I feel I made the right choises and sleep sound at night. It might have been different if I had killed someone but I dont think so. If the second man would have had a gun I would have shot without hesitation.
To any that read these posts that believe only the cops should have guns. I really wonder if you are an American. Our country was founded on certain principles and if you do not like this I suggest you move to Canada. We have the right to bear arms. Not just to hunt, target practice, or any other specific reason. Simply, "the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed."

Lessee.. 1) this is true, it's not an easy decision. What isn't true is that the average person can't make the decision. It happens all the time. What you tend to hear about in our "herd the sheep" media is the times (which, yes, do happen more than they ought to) when the civilian freezes. These are the ones who bought the gun and didn't bother with the training.

    2) Also true. Now, why is this worse than being dead?

I have guns. I've given guns to my wife for her birthday. Am I worried that somebody will enter my house and get shot? Hardly. We don't lock our doors. Nobody in the neighborhood does, unless they are going to be gone.

However - nutjobs don't just come to your home. They show up at schools, at McDonalds, at work... and even on the WAY to work. They show up in city parks and in really nice residential areas. Any place I want to go, they can go.

So, if I am so unfortunate as to be in such a place when one of these whackos decides to thin the population, you want I should just stand by and watch the carnage, or should I pull out whatever I have and maybe save your life?
