I built mine a little over 2 years ago planning to run the road and maximize my payload. It hauls 11 like a glove and still hauls the big stuff by watching my fuel on board as it is much heavier than a quick loader. You will learn by trial and error and I still try new ways. Some ways are more trouble than the effort and other ways are worth it, but you don't know until you try it.

Many people on this site have been very helpful in me learning my rig. At first I took pictures of every load and later analyzed them on my IPad. I often was able to find a better way to load the same load the next time.

I was scared to death of a high rail for the first couple days. Now I can often load as quick or quicker than someone loading a similar load on a quick loader and I wouldn't trade my high rail for a quick loader. In my opinion you will not out load a highrail unless you only haul heavy units. The only time I wish I had a quick loader is when I have 6 big units and with a quick loader I could haul 7. I can still haul 6 big units and one small, which isn't much difference in revenue than 7 bigs.

As crb and Banker mentioned, high rails are intimidating. Here's some points off the top my head.
~ Cold weather will drive you nuts, nothing moves fast especially the double cylinders.
~ That L pin crb mentioned, the one circled in orange. it's there to extend the reach of that deck point, you pull that pin, raise or lower the slide and repin it, you'll see if you look at it. Think of it like jacking up a car, blocking the car and then blocking the jack to raise it higher. Also replace the L pin with a Miller pin.
~ You have horizontal sliding decks, watch everything whenever you move them. You'll be looking at one place and won't realize you're bending something where you're not looking.
~ Horizontal sliders have to be slip plated well or they bind up. Carry a few cans of spray slip plate with you.
~ Watch the contact points where there are two slides on one upright post, on the inside of the trailer some points have large washers welded over the hinge pin. Some contact points will bend this washer making it bind up the hinge

Unless truck rates are fantastic, I wouldn't hesitate to go with a high rail, good luck

I would not hesitate to go with a high rail unless you'll be hauling alot of SUVs and trucks

Hit up @sxdime, he is an owner op with the same set up as you are looking at. I bet he could tell you more about that rig with a sleeper than most people.

That is my concern. Being based out of Texas it's virtually impossible to NOT have trucks and suvs. Will see. And thank you for the advise. Hugely appreciated!!!

Suvs aren't a problem. Don't let the rails intimidate you. You load wide units in the bottom of your current trailer correct? It's all about where you position a deck and which flippers to leave open/closed to help you exit the vehicle without any real issue. Is the trailer your looking at a set forward post or does it look like a (A) at the front like Bankers trailer?
If you're going with a big bunk and its a stock wheelbase (252) it will limit greatly what you can put behind the sleeper. Just remember the big bunk gives you a 3 inch wider bed and a tad more closet space. BUT it adds weight and like I mentioned it semi limits what you can do behind the sleeper.

    QX60's.jpg
Here is a example....that is 8 QX60's basically the same length as a mini van.
Weight was right and yes I was a little high. 13'10"
My truck is a 265 wheelbase with a 48" sleeper.

    Banker Thanks this.

Ziggy, yes it is. Your previous rig? What can you tell me about it?
