Had a click no crank situation this morning.

    1.Tightened batteries
    2.charged batteries using car

No dice. Still click no crank.

Tapped on starter as the key was turned and it fired up. After letting it run I shut off truck, tried crank and was back to click no crank.

Got help again turning the key and as I went to move a wire to get a clear shot to tap it, I got it to turn over. Investigated the wire and sure enough I could move it and not have to tap the starter( saved myself 322.89 ?) . I tightened the nut that this wire is connected to and it did a lot better. Strong crank with immediate start.

Took care of a few other things and cranked it about 15 times and maybe 3 times it would act like it didn't want to start and then start.

What is the purpose of this wire and what else besides it do I need to be checking out?

Sorry for the crap picture. But the wire that my tire thumper is pointing at is the wire

It's hard to see with the wire loom blocking but that wire looks like a ground cable to me. The cranking issue sounds like a bad spot on the starter where the solenoid isn't engaging, it might be the contact brushes are worn. The best bet in that case is to just get a rebuilt unit or a new one if budget allows.

It is the overheat sensor that cuts power to starter if driver keeps cranking after eng. wont start, if you are the only driver you can con. the 2 wires together and see if it helps, but the starter may need replaced

Gonna take those wires off and try cleaning them. I'm determined to not have to put a new starter on.

I think I got it. The wire that I push on,directly behind it is another terminal and it was about a nickel thick loose. When I pushed the wire it must have pushed that too causing it to crank. Tightened it down and I'm getting no sparks and it's starting up.

Thankful to have drove home and not be stuck some place.

the wire you are pointing to is your cab power, make sure you check the ground cables that they are not messed up inside being it's a frl i would suggest you change them, you could get a delco remy 39 mt for yours for about 280 sometimes the starter draws to much power as well making it seem like a bad connection or weak batteries.
