Now come the disputes between drivers and carriers-

Carrier: "Why did you log those hours on-duty, not driving?"

Driver: "Because I was on-duty, not driving."

Carrier: "You should have logged it sleeper."

Driver: "But I wasn't sleepy. I sat in the driver's seat watching for the green light, doing paperwork and planning the next load; then I got down, inspected the truck, pulled a nail out of a drive, pulled out rocks; went inside and spoke to the dock sup and watched part of the offload."

Carrier: "Don't ever log on-duty, not driving again."

Driver: "Thank you sir, may I please have another..."

Can't imagine being on duty for FREE! Is that not a volunteer? I guess different standards your way. Up here minimum wage is going to $15 and you'd be hard pressed to find someone who speaks the Kings English to go on duty without compensation.

Union LTL pays 22.50ish an hour for most on duty not driving time. So better than free but worse than it could be.

I was a Watkins driver from 2010 to 2011, but now I drive local for a grocery distributor (non-union).

I currently get 24.25 an hour with overtime after 40, and I'll max out at 27 an hour in a couple years. That's for everything. Driving and on duty.

11 an hour is an insult.

I was quoted $16/hr on duty not driving, but, I also have to unload the multi-stop. Still 46cpm driving. This was a quote by watkins new owner. I feel like they may be trying to get that w/s guys to quit.

You were quoted $16/hr by Schneider? Interesting. So they're paying Schneider drivers more than W/S. Maybe that's to compensate for W/S drivers getting a higher CPM? None of the Schneider drivers I've talked to make as much CPM as I do (although yours, 46, would be higher).

Driver with a bit of experience: "Did you just order me to falsify my log? Oh, by the way, this conversation IS being recorded, Eff Why Eye. Now, would you care to repeat what you just said? Didn't think so."

One must be very careful to observe the admissible-recording/wiretap laws of whatever states are involved, but with a bit of brainpower, you can make the surveillance state work for you. It's past time for OTR drivers to stop being intimidated and exploited.

As of the beginning of 2018 the minimum wage in California will be 11 an hour. So that is a minimum, not some sort of requirement that this be done at this exact rate.

Further, my understanding is that all time must be paid at at least minimum wage, which means that accessory pay doesn't need to go away, it just needs to add up to that amount.

Example, flatbed driver making 25 dollar stop pay and 40 dollar tarp pay to do a stop that takes an hour and half, he's good to go. Flatbed driver making 10 dollar stop pay and 15 dollar tarp pay to do a stop that takes 4 hours, they need to up the pay.

Currently at 44cpm, the dedicated account added 2 cents. I think 44 is cap for Schneider OTR.
