That looks like a bad intersection.

I don't see that. I see TWO stop signs, one on either side of the lane of travel and a median, if that is not enough to alert a driver of a change in the flow of traffic, then they are obviously NOT paying attention.

    Condolences to all involved.

An awful situation to face. You see a vehicle pull out into your roadway in front of you. You have to try and imagine and react to one of two possibilities
    • They immediately see you and stop (hoping you can deviate around)
    • Or they will continue and maybe accelerate and you will deviate around the opposite way into the space they left.
Looks like the trucker saw the vehicle enter the roadway [from the right] and hoped she'd see him and stop before she got too far into the roadway. So he swerved pretty hard to the left ... right into the space she evaded to.

That's just my crude assessment of the crash scenario.

Another sad and tragic news story.

I meant more about the angles of the road plus tree lines possibly obstructing view before getting so close to the perpendicular lane. Ive never been there so I dont know the true views..only from the photos

That trucker will have that last second image of a mom's last second of life etched in his mind forever.

I would say they're going to have to invest money and put traffic lites in.

Well, I at least hope the trucker is not proven to have been operating above the speed limit or in a state of HOS driving violation as he approached the intersection.

If he was driving perhaps 10 MPH over the limit, that changes the dynamics considerably but looking at the minimal images I don't think he could have been operating over 55 mph. Not sure what the speed limit was, tho.
