Typically...it's drivers running on mileage pay.Let's see .40 a mile×60mph,hey "I'm Makin $24 an hour. Now 70mph ×.40 ,I'm Makin $28 an hour.Now,50mph in a construction zone=$20hr.This is their Simple Minded reasoning.Jus being honest. What about the other 3 hours a day where theyre making zilch? They don't see it that way. It's about their Miles! They give a rats as. about anyone else out there. Now most hourly drivers ,make more by not taking chances.

I slow down because I don't want to get squished against the big concrete median. However, often times the speed limit states "when flashing" or "when workers are present." If the sign isn't flashing or no workers are present, I don't see the point in going 45 mph. Many cars and trucks will slow down though because they don't read the fine print.

I got a good dose of it on 40 bout Earle Arkansas earlier. Morons is all I got. Both flew around me in the left lane. One right in the hook curve. Seen his trailer rub the wall. Then I be #### if they didn't line up side by side and ride all the way to forest city like that. The 4 wheelers were getting pretty ballsy passing on the shoulders. #### in idiots thought it was funny.

    Ridiculously low speed limits?

    No that can't be it.

Construction zones where work was finished months ago, but they left the cones speed limit, and construction zone signs..
    I 20 in Bama... Anyone..?

No that can't be it either..

A LOT of work zones are not clearly work zones. A ton of work zones WERE work zones 8 months ago with people working and lowered speed limits. Now those roads are repaired, contracts completed, but the work zone signs are abandoned. So you are doing the speed limit, or your truck's max speed and boom sign says 45 mph. There may be no other indication of activity. It's a judgement call. And after you say better safe than sorry, please tell us what size safety helmet you wear in the shower and how many flashlights & hi-viz vests you use walking across a parking lot at night.

I was just gonna say this.. obviously if it's a true work zone I will slow to the posted speed, sometimes 5 over depending on the situation/conditions. But it's far too common that they'll leave the 45mph speed limit posted on a 6 lane highway for 20 miles that doesn't even have a Schneider egg on shoulder, let alone any work going on. Kentucky and Ohio are also really bad for doing this, and in that situation I'll pretty much run the flow of traffic.

Thanks to all who shared thoughts on this topic. I needed to ask this, to help me accept its just part of life it seems.

Yep - that's the most disturbingly amazing reason, with a lot of truth to it!

Wow! Absolutely, I mentioned Bama but I have NOT been on that section of i-20 in the western half of the state for several months...So you say IT IS STILL with posted Work Zone Speed Limit??? That is outrageous....Wonder if state patrol will/can cite you for speeding there, like a speed trap?

You're correct and the point understood. But this not what I meant. I'm asking about the current work zones. Which still seem to be everywhere throughout the nation.

Point being it doesn't matter if the posted Work Zone speed is 65mph, the speeding still happens.

One more thing, non-work zone regular speed limit is 75 in Wyoming/Nebraska i-80
when I see speeders pulled over, its usually 4-wheelers.
HOW IS 75 NOT FAST ENOUGH
Speeders gonna speed. Haters gonna hate and I'm not hating as I see it, just don't understand even though I try to just understand for the sake of it.

I do speed limit now..... I wasn't paying attention and got popped. They double speeding ticket for work zone....and double it again for being HazMat..... ask me how I know...... lol..... luckily I had/have a perfect record, and got the DA to not report it if I payed full ticket price.... expensive lesson.....
