Was seriously considering them, but wife wanted to go with me drom day 1 after training and they had a 6 month waiting period before allowing riders.

 

Call Stevens Transport and ask; "Do I need a physical before arriving."
My guess is you probably need to get a physical before arriving at school and also the CDL Permit.
Study for the CDL Permit before going to the DMV to take the tests. Google : Free CDL Practice Tests Indiana

Cheapest places to get DOT physical is Kroger Little Clinic and CVS Pharmacy; under $100.00

 

Call some trucking companies that have their own school and tell them you can't afford a physical and will they let you get one at their expense after you get to their school. Some actually prefer you get the physical at the school. Make some calls or just submit applications then follow up with a phone call and say, "I'm checking on my school application."

First thing I'd do is exactly what your physician told you to do... (get clearance from your pysc Dr.)

Your physicians request is to cover their butt since they are liable for anything that happens.

Instead of trying to work around the system, try working with it..
You can always get a second opinion but still need to disclose the original doctors concerns...otherwise it is considered "Dr shopping"
