CHAINING...are you ready?

Was issued a new truck a month or so ago. It was pre-loaded with used chains.

A few days ago I get some time to go through them. Turns out they load 4 sets of singles which is fine. I had time to go through 6 chains. Each one had at list one "twist" in it. A few were worn pretty good but probably will be okay.

Points being

• Check your chains if your not familiar with them while the weather is good
• Correct any "twists" (where the ends were pulled up through an opening in another part of the chain)
• Learn how to handle and stow your chains from start to finish to avoid turning them inside out

I guess stowing in bags or boxes is the worst way to manage them but use cable ties to help keep them "together" and segregated.

 

I was not ready Monday when I drove through the first WTF snow storm of the year up on 70, especially around Vail.
I didn't have my chains lol.
They have the requirement to carry up though.

 

Got lucky, Dave! They've been setting up chain checks fairly regularly the last few weeks.

 

I found the best way to store them is hang them on the wall in my barn.

 

I think they were overwhelmed. They could have written a few hundred citations I'm sure.
I got lucky on the pre pass green light when I entered the state, then they had the coup at Burthode closed.

 

I was 79360 on this load too. 33895 drives 33820 tandems at AZ POE lmfao.
Yea sure chains lol why not.
Guess I gonna have to leave some of my emergency food at home, and lose a few pounds lol.

How come a set of chains at Freightliner is $65.00
and at Flying J they are $119.00???
