O.K. so I was all set for orientation with Gordon. I went in for my physical and wrote on the paper work that I had a back injury. BIG MISTAKE! I have spent the last three weeks trying to get some paperwork from the hospital I was seen at so I can be cleared for work.

First they tell me that if I get this paperwork I will be all set. Then they tell me that they need it so they can do a fit for duty test. I live in CA and the hospital is in MN and they can't fax my records they will only mail them. I sent them a request for my records and they sent the wrong thing! I call Andrea at Gordon almost every day to try and get set up for the fit for duty test. I get the same answer "Let me look in to that and talk to my supervisor and I'll call you in the morning." Suprise, I get no call. I'm getting the feeling that she is hoping I will just go away.:biggrin_25516:

I do have other options, but dispite all this I still really want to work for them. The problem is $$$$. I need it. Any suggestions???

Wow, sorry to hear that, I know i've worked with a couple guys that had some serious back surgeries and were still hired to drive, guess every company is different. Mind you not hiring due to an old injury could be viewed as a an A.D.A violation provided you are able to do your job.

With the number of drivers available for each available job now, I guess this is not surprising. It is a shame and makes it tough on you. But if you look at it from the company standpoint: We have five job openings. We have fifteen drivers ready to go to work, and one driver that wants to, but has a potential physical problem. Who are you going to hire.

BTDT on the medical history. Had a situation one time where my wife needed her medical history pronto from a hospital where we used to live. Not only would then not fax it, they would not even mail it. (This was not an option for us anyway, as it was needed ASAP.)

They would only release it in person, and then only to the patient. So the upshot of this was that my wife and I, (and she was hurting) had to go and get the records. A little over a thousand miles each way.

But then we really DON'T need any kind of medical reforms, do we. :angry1:

OK, not trying to hijack the thread here. I understand that Gordon is a good company to work for, if you can get on with them. Good luck.

This was a minor back strain I was fine in less than a week, but it happened at work and I had to get medical attention. I went to the emergency room so they could give me ibuprophen. I wish I would have kept my mouth shut. I only said anything on account of the recruiter said they would find out if I wasn't honest about past injuries. So apparentely honesty is not the best policy. I was lucky to get a pre-hire with Gordon and really want to work with them. But I am about to pull out what little hair I have left!

You are right about calling her early I am usually able to get her in the morning. If I call after 10 am she almost never answers and NEVER responds if I leaver her a message. Just want to stop all the games, get a straight answer, take care of the issue and get to work!
