I always thought they were just big rolls of toilet paper.
No, I've never pulled one either. I do know they put a awfully lot of strain in a very small area though. Well, I take that back, I hauled a couple of coils one time about two miles down the road, from one plant to another.Oxbow Thanks this. -
Snaps work better with the ac units too. I run snaps when I need them.OLDSKOOLERnWV, Rodneyna217, cke and 2 others Thank this.

10mm is the way to go. Packs a whallop if it's a strong load. Too much for limp wristed FBI though.

To be clear, I've never used the term "snap" binders, they, to me, were always "over center" binders, and we never had ratchet binders. Someone told me once, you weren't allowed to use a "cheater pipe" on an over center binder, but EVERYBODY did it, you had to. Chaining anything is tense, not so much machinery, which I hauled a lot of, it pretty much stays put once tight, it's the crap loads, sticking out all over, where constant tightening is a must, a quick couple clicks of a ratchet binder, and you're good to go. Once, an "old-timer" told me, "to line up all the links in the chain before pulling on it, and it will never loosen",,,dang, he was right!!

If you read the warnings that come with snap binders, and I even think it's embossed on the handles of some brands, they warn you not to use a cheater pipe. It is funny though that they make the end for easy acceptance of a cheater and you can't get one tight without it. Lawsuit liability I guess.
