Thanks for this thread! I've a long term dream to do this, and this level of detail is really useful. I don't understand how the market can be saturated, yet everyone else is screaming about a huge driver shortage. Would you mind explaining? I'm trying to wrap my head around this industry but it seems so much about trucking is counterintuitive. Again, thanks fortaking the time to share all this.

I think the perceived driver shortage is OTR. Specialized stuff....where you are climbing on tall loads and tarping stuff.....is...well...specialized.

    Spyke Thanks this.

How are you loading 19k on that trailer? That's well above trailer gvwr/axle limit. Is there weight transfer or something I am missing? Thanks

Since, your ignorance speaks volumes, allow me to help you.
Trailer axle's are 15k (Dual Tandems & Gooseneck Coupler Neck 30k (Upgrade).
    That's 30k GVWR, math anyone?
I have the upgraded Dexter 15k E- Brakes (Something you will regret. getting with HOE)
Empty Weight of Trailer is 9200lbs, what are you missing?
My 19k is my gross limit because of my truck(Nothing to do with my trailer), but if I (Upgraded Truck) I could load near 21k on this trailer.
I see a lot of Hotshot trailers bought direct from dealers without taking things like this into account. Most "dealer sale" trailers have the 10 or 12k axles if your lucky.
The Gooseneck Coupler is usually rated on these @ 24, 25, or 26, not 30k.
When , guys start out they don't usually take things like this into account. Most will look at options like, HOE brakes, ToolBoxes, Rail Straps, Winch Plates, Lights and other things that have little effect on revenue.

The only exception to get out of an ELD are 5 days or older than 99 truck. Unless it's a Fed Exception thru a Gov Agency.

As far as the RPM, this is based on MPG for me, period. I do not use Truckstops when I can help it, I Google earth my route & Gas Buddy diesel thru that route. I make sure I can get in the stations well before I'm loaded and en-route. It's a lot of planning.
Things like driving at night, less wind, less traffic = better fuel mileage.
    Cruise set @ 58 to 62 = 13.9 mpg @ 33k.
When I fuel, I don't idle. I have a 1.9 interest rate on my newest Ram, so payments are very acceptable, everything else is paid for.
You should also consider most Truckstops charge anywhere from .19 to .42 more than gas station w diesel pumps.

P.S. I didn't post this to argue with guys who can't figure out how to make money. I came here to thank the ONES who have been helpful & respectful. So don't expect another reply to your arrogant and patronizing comments.
