I was with you right up until this uninformed statement. But don't let a little thing like the facts get in the way of righteous indignation and hyperbole.![]()

I carry all the time....at home, work, or mowing the grass. Always have and always will. I've gone to the trouble of getting CCW and all guns are legal. I have never had to as much as reach for my weapon, but train regularly drawing the weapon and shooting. I hope I never have to use it, but you can bet I won't hesitate to shoot to kill. I have no intentions of hurting someone just so some ACLU lawyer can sue me, I'll be sure they're dead. I usually have two, sometimes three weapons on me.
And just so you know....I've never been in a gun free zone. If I'm there it's not gun free!photolurp2 Thanks this. -
Your quote of my post:
Our country was founded on certain principles and if you do not like this I suggest you move to Canada.
Thank you for hanging in there up to a point. I do have a few things that I would like cleared up as i am at a loss now. You posted that you were with me, " right up until this uninformed statement." The rest of the post was , " We have the right to bear arms. Not just to hunt, target practice, or any other specific reason. Simply, "the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.".
Does that mean that you became lost concerning the rest of the post? By omiting that part you indicate that you were. Maybe you were with me, got lost, then found again?
What part that you quoted do you deem to be clouded? What part do you find to be uninformed? Where do you find righteous indignation? What part that you quoted did you find to be extravagant exaggeration? Any righteous indignation on my part would only have begun after reading your post and then only after the last sentence.
I find that some use superfluity of words that is clear verbiage to seem impressive or to mask a hidden agenda. I also feel that you have done just that. It is not clear to me if you were trying to be impressive or have a hidden agenda.
I wrote a sentence that was a definitive statement and you found issue where? #1)- Our country was founded on certain principles. #2)- and if you do not like this I suggest you move to Canada.
We, as a people, have a Constitution to maintain order. I consider this Constitution to be mine, in the posesssive state, as in my house, my country, and my Constitution. If someone does not like my house I would suggest they leave. This is not an exaggeration at all.
There are no facts that need to be justified unless you take the position that out country was not founded on principles. Is this the part that you deem uninformed?
I have the best education that my small back woods country school could provide. We had 28 in my class. I did not go to college.
I feel that I am ignorant to a point as I do not know a lot of things. I did not, however, stop learning when I left school. At best I probably have a rudimentary knowledge of the English language. I am 51 and hope to learn until the day I die. I do not nor ever intend to mask anything. I am honest in my intentions and beliefs.
I believe we live in the greatest nation on earth which we call the United States of America. I believe that with all it's faults we can not live anywhere better. I believe that everyone has a right to their opinion but that I do not ever want their ideas to rule or change my life. I would not want to exchange forms of government with any other country.
When I feel an injustice has been committed I speak out to inform others.
A fact by definition is something "believed" to be true or real(unless otherwise found false) and some use the words true fact or real fact. These connotations are unnecessary.
An example is that I feel we have went through almost eight years of a President that has been a detriment to our country. There are "facts" to support this.
I do find contentment that you only found issue with one sentence of my large post. I only found issue in one sentence in your post also of course you only had two.
I hope I have cleared up any misunderstanding you may have had.

You haven't got the faintest clue about gun ownership, rights and laws in Canada ... nor anything else I suspect.
-
So, enlighten us, LnF. I admit I don't have a clue as to your laws in Canada, except what I've heard from Canadian friends, such as; limited to certain calibers, must keep ammunition and arms locked in separate areas in one's own home, no concealed carry. Essentially, no right to defend one's self from human predators.
I don't agree that what otr500 said is BS. He's right, we have rights granted us by our Constitution and if one doesn't agree with those rights, one needs to move somewhere like-minded. Now, maybe using Canada wasn't the best example, but it doesn't mean that what he posted should be dismissed out of hand. He asked you to explain what you said in your post and you replied with what could be construed as an insult. There was no need for that.
Back on topic; I carry everywhere I go, as well. One thing that's certain if someone threatens me or mine, he will not stand trial. -
I don't have a problem responding to reasonable questions/statements; it's when the tired old lines painting Canada as a "socialist heaven", "can't own guns", "nanny state", "If you don't like the true 'land of the free, home of the brave' (sic), move to somewhere like Canada", etc. B.S. gets rolled out that I have little patience for what are clearly ignorant statements.
If you look at actual numbers, you will see that gun ownership in Canada is surprisingly high; about 8th in the world on a per capita basis (approx. 1/3 of that in the U.S.). Given that this is for all guns and we have very few handguns when one digs further you will see that as far as long-guns goes, ownership in Canada is about on par with that in the U.S. In essence, it is no more difficult for me to go buy a rifle than it is for you to do likewise.
Where our countries diverge greatly is in handgun ownership and use. Yes, we have restrictions on the ownership of handguns and you are right, there is no concealed carry. That doesn't mean that I can't own a handgun if I decide I want to, just that there are certain rules and regulations that must be followed. However, "we" have decided that is exactly the way we like it. Many Americans then like to make a statement similar to the one you posted; "no concealed carry. Essentially, no right to defend one's self from human predators." Given that the homicide rate by gun, on a per capita basis, is approximately 4.5-5.5 times higher in the U.S., I fail to see the problem.
As far as the rights and freedoms available to the citizens of our respective countries, there is very little difference in a real and practical sense. In fact, I would suggest that we have far less "oversight" than you do (the numbers and variety of law enforcement in the U.S. ... therefore keeping U.S. citizens "in line" ... staggers me). Our country was founded on many of the same principles and ideals as the U.S. However, throughout our respective histories we have often had differing ways of dealing with many of the same issues.
We have a constitution. We have our Charter of Rights and Freedoms. And, we have a heck of a lot of guns, so that Boy Scout troop better think twice before trying to take us over.

Just had to jump in on this one, and clarify it a bit. What you have just stated is that if you ASSUME that someone threatens you or yours (and you didn't differentiate between person and property) you will kill them. No warning, no calls to the police, nothing...just BAM-------dead.
Taken literally, that would mean that if a drunk accosted you on the street looking for a handout you would shoot him (I know that's not what you meant, but it is just that type of rhetoric that gives gun owners everywhere a bad name).
Yes, I am a Canadian gun-owner....I had a concealed carry permit for several years due to the nature of my (previous) job, and did carry everywhere I went. Never had to draw my weapon, glad I didn't, but I would have if necessary, BECAUSE that was the job that I was doing.
But would you, as a truck driver, hauling a load of computer parts from Frisco to Oklahoma City, really kill someone else who wanted to take them? They're not YOUR parts, you didn't pay for them, hell, your COMPANY didn't pay for them, and that's what insurance is for.
Yes, you MIGHT be able to get the drop on him, and put him down....as his partner in the cab pulls out that SPAS 12 ga. Much easier to just stand down, let them have what they want, and let it all go. Defend and fight for the IMPORTANT things, but property is not one of them. -
In response to Lost and Thylanes. Canada is a great country to live in without a doubt but lets be fair. While its true that the per capita homicide rate is lower its an apples to oranges numbers game. Canada has a far higher rural/small town population per capita than the US. Our homicide rate is heavily skewed due to the number of major metro areas and the percentage of nutjobs in close proximity. The few major Canadian cities aren't far behind our worst for gun crimes in general and Homicide rates.
As to property not being important.... If I'm an owner/operator and someone swipes my personal truck or trailer full of freight sure my insurance will pay for it..minus a deductable. So I'm only out what?... lets see...the deductable, the pay for that load, the time lost waiting for my insurance to replace my truck or trailer, any personal items possibly involved. Hell, I may only be out of work for 3-4 weeks.
Yeah, truck driving pays so well that every driver can afford that without effecting his family. I mean mortgage companies are reknowned for their understanding when you cant pay them, so are the holders of the lien on your wifes car. Lord knows anyone can walk into a grocery and pay 1/2 price for a months food when the Wife explains to the manager why she's short of cash. The electric and gas companies are understanding too.
Maybe it works that way in Canada, but in the US, not so much. -
