1. Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.

NTB has a yard in Newport which is around 35 miles south of Detroit. They run mainly regional but do have loads going as far south as Texas.

The unemployment rate in MI is 17%. Trucking companies are slowing as almost all are geared toward automotive with the exception of what WAHWAH said.

Chrysler Toledo (Jeep) is down to one shift and will lay off an additional 400+ before the end of the first quarter next year.

My daughter was a translator for GM (French & German). She was laid off over 2-years ago with almost no hope of returning. She was forced into moving back home with us.

And you want to look for work in Michigan?

Has everyone left and shut the door? I was laid off from Old Dominion in Feb. and been looking for a reasonably good paying driving job. Seems like the whole country has forgot about Mich and not hireing here. Anyone got any ideas for me? Thanks

Join the club,I live in the thumb and have applied to every company I can find. The response I get is that they are not hiring out of MI. or that I live too far north from Detroit,or that I don't have enough experience. But yet I'm seeing drivers from other states getting hired right out of school.I can't even get a job at the fast food joints, the high schoolers get them.I have even tried several times to get a job cleaning out stalls on dairy farms, and NOTHING!!I wasn't aware you had to have a college degree to clean cow pooh!!
