^^THIS^^ Happened to me, alt. shorted internally, still charged though. I let the engine cool overnight, next morning and the alt. was hot to the touch. BTW, I've heard a starter can do the same thing. BOL
Dave_in_AZ Thanks this. -
yeah, i can only say what we were told to do.
-
I don't know about other trucks but the trucks I've driven turn the heater off while parked. Def thaws without degrading.
-
well, what can i continue to say?
we at my company do what we are told to do. it is kinda pointless to debate me on this. you do what your company says, we do what ours says. -
I get that. I'm just saying that most trucks won't be killing the batteries with the heater because it won't be turned on. There's a good chance your truck is the same way the shop guys just don't understand how it works.Dave_in_AZ, d281833 and buddyd157 Thank this.

I don't know about any heater. Nothing was ever said to us. I never turned the switch off though. Winter time is too cold to even worry about the fridge running. I live 90 miles from the yard i WAS working for. Only time i needed help in the almost 7 years i did OTR. I called a taxi to take me to store for some salt as i was froze to the ground. Sun melted snow and left me stuck in puddles of ice.
HopeOverMope and buddyd157 Thank this. -
He said it fried the kill switch. They are pretty stout so he has something seriously shorted. If not for that I would ask if he is using the glass mat batteries. We haven't had good luck with them lucky to get a year out of them.
6wheeler Thanks this. -
Is the kill switch broke on the positive side or negative side? Wondering because if the positive, is it a possibility of the lead grounding out and frying it? Try to disconnect power supply at alternator over night.
Klleetrucking Thanks this. -
Brand new alternator should be ok but I'll take another look at it
