Problem is, often times these cops go on "paid administrative leave" while things are being sorted out...which is fine. I understand that they have a family to take care of, and not every case shows the cop to be in error. If the officer is cleared of any wrongdoing, let him keep the money. HOWEVER, when the investigation is completed and it is shown that the officer was in the wrong, that "paid leave" ought to be recoverable by the department. Take it out of whatever pension, vacation pay, or any other benefits they'd otherwise have coming if the officer is terminated, and if anything debt is left outstanding they can either repay it or it goes to collections. If they are reinstated, make out a payment plan to deduct from their paychecks to repay the money. This way, problem cops don't get to screw up and then sit at home collecting a check for doing nothing. Violating someone's rights shouldn't get you a 6-week paid vacation.

What sort of mental gymnastics did you go through to extrapolate that from my comment?

I agree, there was little to no thought involved as my statement and your reply aren't related in any way

I didn't mention truckers. I didn't call cops trash. I made a statement about human nature; that is, a deep need to feel like a good person no matter the situation. People rarely blame themselves or view themselves objectively. That was all.

So yeah, I don't see how your reply was related to anything I said in any feasible way. I'm curious to hear what you're seeing that I'm not.
