Automatics will get better fuel economy over a manual with the average steering wheel holder. However, if you are always watching your boost/pyro levels, only running the cruise on the flats and the pedal in the hills and basically being on top of you're fuel mileage all the time, you can beat the auto with a manual any day of the week.

I thought I'd hate the auto.... Then I ate a sandwich in downtown Chicago.
Milkman719 and JOHNQPUBLIC Thank this. -
Our fleet has the 12 speed I-shifts. Hauling chicken or veg oil up and down the NJ tpk and in and out of NYC, the automatic is very nice. Creeping traffic is a breeze and does allow you to pay more attention to the idiots around you. Fuel mileage wise, loaded both up and back (77-78k gross), D13 w I-shift: 7.25 mpg.

Consider that old iron in my day made in the late 50's did well at 4 miles to gallon and today's trucks think they do well near 7? Ha.... -
I would buy a auto with your money but not with mine. Never had so many issues with trucks as I have the last 5 years driving autos and I been at this on 40 years
