Why aren't there back up cameras for easier backing?

I wonder how long one would last mounted on the back of a trailer before its crushed or stolen

 

I'm going to start a new service. It's called "I'll back it up for you".

Gezz.... learn how to do the dang job or GO HOME.

 

I'd rather do both.

Been driving for 7 mos now, and I still suck at backing. Why?? Most of the backing I do is up to rock piles, no need to be in a small tight area. Just back up to the pile and dump. I have been trying to improve, by using tire tracks left by other trucks. I try to put my tires right on them, and not from a straight position. I rarely get to spend the night at a truckstop, so no motivation or means to practice there. When I do, I try to find a spot waaaay in the back, or where I can nose in/drive-through.

I thought I was going to be able to see a truck next to me get his hood taken off the other day, luckily the driver stopped backing in time. I was setting there saying no, no, wait, I don't have my camera on...

 

The people I work for have cameras on all their trucks and you wouldn't believe how many objects they have have hit.I don't think they have hit any vehicles but the have hit those posts filled with concrete that are supposed to protect the docks.

 

Cameras are not a good idea. That's why we have a lot mirrors on our truck's. Flat mirrors, and crossover mirror. Just make sure they are adjust right then you are got of go. My mirrors don't tell me a lie that for a fact. I never trust cameras.

We get out and look, been doing this crap for 28 years, call it 50 years at this point, and still dumb as a post. I do get out of the cab, I own the truck and am responsible for any damage to the trailer or property damage, so I have a vested interest in doing just that. And yes, even in a truck stop, when I am burned out and can barely keep my eyes open and there is a line of trucks waiting to get by me. They are not buying a mirror or hood, I am if I screw up.

Cameras on the trailer are for rookies in my book, if they even exist. Know what is behind you, a camera will only show you so much when backing, you need to visually inspect if there are doubts or things hanging down that will rip a hole in the side of the trailer, a camera will never show that.

Don't be lazy, do your JOB.

 

Even if Swift had backup cameras they'd still hit both trucks on either side of the spot they're trying to back into !!!
