Friday the 13th must've been extended to a whole week this year as my husband is having a very trying week
Started with a pick up that took 24 hours. Finally got to his delivery on time but ...he didn't have com check for the lumpers. He had requested it via Qualcomm and phone but it didn't finally arrive until the next morning. Despite letting the brokers know of the issue, he's gotten 19 calls from them since last night. Talk about seriously reconsidering his new career
He is beyond frustrated, aggravated, sleep deprived and on and on. He's shared his gps with them, explained how dangerous it is to have to answer these constant calls especially after being woken up every time he would fall asleep last night and still they persist. And with the stress of enforcement week. She even asked if a text would be better???
I told them to block them and ask them to go through his company but he's just a lot nicer than I am. I know he will be thrilled to deliver this load tomorrow and get those monkeys off his back.Vic Firth Thanks this. -
Brokers can be annoying, he should of given them the companies number and shut his phone off to get his rest.hoosiergirl Thanks this.

Yeah, I think he's learned his lesson the hard way.Vic Firth Thanks this.

I must admit my husband was really questioning his new profession after about 2 weeks of just about every trying situation you could imagine; which I guess is just trucking some times. Lots of waiting with short hops to the next stop making for short mileage days, 24 hour loading fiascos, and Broker nonsense.
He had a delivery on the north side of Chicago that ran his hours out and he was told he could stay there overnight. Of course he was rudely woken up at 3am by the next shift supervisor who had no idea what he was talking about so he had to hightail it out of there to find another place to park
His last run had instructions to call the Broker for info. Ah hell no. He talked to his dispatch who called them then patched him in so he didn't have to give his number. He loves his dispatcher she is such a great problem solver and really goes to bat for him if he needs it.
His bad streak fortunately came to end though
He came through my neck of the woods on our anniversary, so I drove 45 minutes to the Loves in Whiteland to spend his 30 minute break with him. Not exactly the most romantic anniversary but I was grateful for those 30 minutes and brought him some home cooking and a few things he needed.
He wanted to stay out a month this time so he could take a longer break in November. We're going to see Guns n Roses so he's pretty stoked. he's scheduled some dental work he's not so stoked about though, lol but I think the concert will make up for that.
Before he went out, we bought him a small freezer from Amazon so he could take more food with him since the freezer in his tiny fridge is so unbelievably small. Its been working out great and already saved so much money. He uses an air fryer to cook with or heat things up and it makes everything taste great. I cook up or prepare his favorites then use the vacuum sealer to create individual portions so everything stays pretty fresh. It makes me feel better to know he's eating good while he's out there.
Some really great news is that Britton just came out with a new bonus system in addition to the current quarterly bonus program. To qualify you need to hit 10,000 miles in a month which he usually does. He's already hit it for October so we're pretty excited about more money.
He's still bringing home over 1,xxx each week except his home weeks and regularly gets 3,000+ miles a week. He loves it. Not bad at all for a newbie with only 3 months under his belt. If you wanna run hard they certainly have the miles.Swiss Mountain Dog, Vic Firth and carramrod32 Thank this. -
I don't know why drivers get all giddy over bonuses (usually something they can't control themselves).hoosiergirl Thanks this.

I guess for us it's because he didn't have to do anything extra to earn the money. He gets 3,000+ per week anyway so it's all extra and not something we had budgeted.
From what I understand there are some that like a lot of hometime and just don't want to run as much. I guess it's to encourage those drivers to put in some additional time or I guess to reward those that do put in the time. It's a nice unexpected bonus and he's Not had problem hitting it even in weeks he's done a lot of waiting around.Knucklehead Thanks this. -
3000 miles a week is good for a new driver, good for him.

Hoosiergirl, I'm glad you and your husband are still liking things here at Britton. I can't wait to get back to work. After finding out I couldn't pass a DOT physical due to a cataract in my left eye, I was very fortunate in scheduling the surgery. I now see better in my left eye than I have since childhood. Gotta have a laser touchup procedure monday. Then in a week, I can get a new prescription for glasses and get back to work. Will be five weeks off. And Britton has been great throughout all of this. I didn't even have to empty my truck out. They said it will be here for you when you get back. Of course, they want me back, but no one is mad or anything. A lesser company would have fired me and said "reapply when he get your problem fixed. Goodbye." I'm still really happy with Britton.
hoosiergirl Thanks this.
