OD Yard Jockeys

have you just tried applying in person?

 

I never worked for OD, but I've worked for 3 other LTL companies and our Yard hostlers were always internals hires

 

i actually graduated, like a hundred years ago from a trucking school and my classmate went to work for them. (he is still there, over 30 years now) and he was put on the dock and did yard work. so i suggest apply with-in. one way or another he can be a yardman, either right away out of CDL school or from the docks, IF he tells them he wants to only be a yardman.

 

Not quite sure about ODFL, but if you wanted to be a Yard Jockey at UPS Freight, you would have to apply as a dockworker. Yard jockeying is part of Dockworkers duties and they get paid the same as Dockworkers, which is about a buck less than P&D. So I would imagine apply as a Dockworker at ODFL. That would be my guess.

Just apply! When I went back to Yellow, they put me in their POS goat...

I said "What the muck is this?" I'm not doing night goat. They claimed that they cannot find anyone else.

Well, I quit (again), SO! If you WANT that job, just tell them! TELL them that you would like that job, since no other employees there do.

 

Trust me! NOBODY wants to drive goat!

My fellow Teamsters even reminded me that I am not allowed to smoke in the goat!

I asked my Brothers, then why does the regular goat driver, that's been here for 20 years, smoke in the goat?

Dude, nobody wants goat work... Apply, apply, apply, and you shall get the job.

Just make sure not to smoke ANYWHERE near a Teamster, as their "oh so sensitive" noses are more concerned with that, than voting to keep wages and benefits up!

 

Starting oon the dock will be the best way. They usually hire dock workers uup to those positions.

 

Even the dock workers don't wan't that job. They want to stay dry...

THAT'S why I say, just go in and state that you're willing to endure that job, day or night, and you just MAY get slipped right into that position. Trust me...
