ANY off the shelf radio has that potential with the following:
GOOD coax, good antenna, SWR set properly, atmospheric conditions, radio traffic ETC
-
I got a barjan coax cable from Flying J which is 18ft. It's the clear copper one.
I got a Wilson 2000 and I'm gonna mount it to the bed rail inside the bed of my new pick up.
I'm debating if I want to mount the radio overhead or on the floor over the dog house. -
Where you mount the radio won't effect performace, but where you mount the antenna will. Mounting the antenna to the bed rail inside the bed is not uncommon and often works acceptably (few people want to drill holes in the roof of a new truck), but keep in mind that mounting there means the antenna will not be very high up in the air, reducing performance to some degree (the higher the antenna, the better the performance). Also, if the antenna is located within a few feet of the back of the cab, you could (likely) intoduce a high SWR problem due to reflected power (bounce off the metal cab back to the antenna), again reducing performance.

It's a 90 Chevrolet Silverado, yeah I gave that alot of thought do I want to drill holes in the roof or in the bed rail.
I know mounting it up top or on the floor doesn't affect performance. -
well double, their is a difference in the audio that each radio puts out. you will notice a bit. theirs nothing wrong with the 29, but the glaaxy 949 is a completely different radio, and its got the SSB. its different, some may say its a "bigger talker"
the 29 does have a great receive though... got some big ears. -
I thought about mounting the antenna above the sliding rear glass but I realized I'd be stuck using two bolts and it'll be leaning forward to where it'll be leaning over the cab, wouldn't that cause my swr to be high since it would be bouncing off the cab?

Connex wise.....I've heard good things about the 3300HP, or the 4300-300 gives you the built in linear amp, but for what you pay for one you could buy a 3300 and a nice amp for less.
Or I've also heard good things about the General Lee radios which are said to be talkers, they're about the same as a Connex with a different face, and they're not amplified, neither is the Connex 3300HP.
Galaxy....not too sure.
In regards to antenna mounting, what about a magnet mount? -
I never was a fan of magnet mounts and from what I hear they don't get out worth a crap.
-
The magnet mount I had several years ago for my car worked just fine. It's the antenna attached to it that makes the diff.
