I would still try looking into the LTL companies for a local gig. Even starting off on the docks, you'll probably still make more than the $27k that you mentioned. Practically all of the LTL companies have some sort of dock to driver program or higher new students. Fed Ex Freight and Express have dock to driver programs. So does Estes. YRC is known to hire new students. Same with ODFL and I think ABF does too. UPSF you can be hired as a full-time Dockworker, and since you have a CDL, you may be able to become a Combo Dockworker/CDL driver or yard jockey and work your way up to a P&D driver. If you're interested in Foodservice, many of them also higher new students, such as McLane and GFS, or start you off as a helper. USPS you can start off as a Class B MVO and be trained to become a Class A TTO.
Anouther option may be to become a package delivery driver for UPS. They start off around $18.75 and top out around $35-36 an hour. You get free healthcare, UPS-IBT Pension, 401k and company stock options. Once you bid on a run, it's basically your's until you retire. You can choose to leave your run if any changes are made. Usually they put in around 40-48 hours a week doing P&D work. Only downside is they have no A/C or radios and they're van's have all kinds of sensors on them. And you can also be on a waiting list to be trained as a Feeder Driver too, that's if you don't mind doing night work.
You can also try becoming a Route Sales Rep for bread companies like Bimbo Bakeries. Union job also with free healthcare, pension (non CSPF), and possibly severance pay as well. They get paid a base salary and get a percentage of everything sold. They start off around $40k the first year and average anywhere from $80-130k after that. Frito Lay also works the same way, although they have Non Union barns as well. -
I would also say that 40k GROSS first year, yes.

Wanted just to update on the situation. Been turned down by a lot of companies due to an accident 2.5 years ago, first one since high school. That being said, most companies have told me to please come back when it drops off in May.
I've talked to Schneider, they want a copy of the police report before moving forward for an OTR LTL position. Britton has been in contact with me saying they are fighting to sway the insurance company.
I must extend many thanks to many people so far in this industry for the help, and support that I have received thus far. So many awesome people out there! -
Here comes another one fellas! -
