Hey all! This week was a little hectic, and couldn't update a lot on the Experiment. I Had some breakdowns with my other 3 trucks and my week collapse a little. But here I am, and here's the update on the preplanning for my two trucks.
Besides the load that almost got canceled on Wednesday, I got delayed today in the pickup in Lebanon, PA. The load wasn't ready because yesterday they didn't arrange it properly. Hopefully, we won't get affected by this for delivery on Monday. We'll have to see!
I managed to book a new set of loads for my drivers. Had to book a short load to pick something that I thought it was good. And out of WA, I think I got decent money.
Let me know how I'm doing! Hope monday to book the next week and see how far I can preplan.

Not bad $1.50+
Ever tried the short game?
Shorter loads that pay $3+?trucking.shine Thanks this. -
Less miles and more revenue=longer lasting truck.
Although large delivery windows usually ruin the game.
See if you can string together the shorter runs.trucking.shine and nax Thank this. -
I don’t see how your making money after paying a driver and all the truck expenses at those rates. Now I know why brokers offer what they do.
driverdriver, Steel Dragon and izifaddag Thank this. -
Better yet don't go to Miami.
It would take $4 a mile to get me into Florida and I wouldn't care if that was from Oregon !
I would need serious encouragement. LOL.
The fact is that freight going INTO Florida doesn't pay any better than freight anywhere else. Then you have the prospect of either a looonnngg deadhead or a $1 a mile time waster.
Georgia isn't a party either.
I stay away from the SE.
That South Bay load that Jaba booked is almost certainly sugar right out of the fields off 27. It weighs big time. All the way to Jessup MD? Another bad place to load out of.
The last time I loaded out of the sugar fields from South Bay I had just taken a load of dummy bombs down to Homestead air force base. It paid well and was an interesting experience. In both Homestead and SLC where it loaded.
As for Jessup MD. Last time I ended up closeish to there I bounced to Louisville KY and easily found a great load.
Got yourself backed into a corner a bit there Jaba. Best wishes and I am sure you will rescue the whole thing.trucking.shine, driverdriver and Steel Dragon Thank this. -
Jaba, friend, it isn't just the money. Everytime somebody moves a load out of Florida for $1 a mile it encourages their behaviour. This has been going on since I have been around trucking i.e. more than 20 years. It will never stop until the trucks do.
So yes it is better to DH out of Florida and avoid the utter bs loads coming out of there. Much better to go to Georgia and start fresh. Maybe Jacksonville. Maybe even Alabama.
I don't blame the brokers, this is coming from shippers. Cheap shippers. It has been going on for so long they think it is their birthright. Lots of money sloshing around in Florida but they don't want to share it. Lived there for 28 years. Very expensive and poor wages. Trucking is almost impossible. I moved to Texas / Mississippi.
Much better.trucking.shine, driverdriver and Steel Dragon Thank this. -
Could not have said it better.
People forget it's not just about top line. the middle line (cost) can/will kill you with hard/long/heavy milesSteel Dragon and izifaddag Thank this. -
Fantastic advice and one I will take to heart. I have a tendency to do the longer runs. It is because I like them, what you said still remains true. It is just that I like doing these runs. I give something up to do what I want.
It is on me.
My trucking life is a little different than most. Your explanation is dead on though. I need to start incorporating that approach more. Whenever I do I make more money. Couple of special factors in my case. -
You nailed it. It is why i do longer runs. yesterday spent about 7 hours in a dock. It is a 5 day run though. I can forgive that for $2 a mile.Steel Dragon Thanks this.

I don't either, and the biggest problem I'm seeing is he's trying to book too far out. It's hard to score a solid rate booking 3-4 days out. Brokers have time to wait for cheap trucks to call in, and that's exactly what's happening here.Steel Dragon and izifaddag Thank this.
