I've finished plenty of orientations (Pony Shows). On the last final half day the romance is over your handed keys to a truck and given a load, only to find out the truck isn't ready. What a way to start off.
It's possible the brakes weren't tight enough and he wouldn't noticed till he got a load. As far as heat goes that should have been checked this time of year. All ways look at your tandem brakes before trailer is on to notice if the shoes are touching drums before rolling out.Last edited: Oct 22, 2017

I've never understood the "no brakes" comment. First thing to do is look at the truck's brakes when you bobtail. Then, you climb under the trailer and look at them. Is there a gap in the shoe and drum when applied? Is the stroke past 90 degrees? Are the shoes contaminated with grease or cracked? Are they under 1/4 inch thick? If so it needs to be addressed. Then I release the parking brake and listen for air leaks when I apply them with the trolley valve wedged. Finally a good hard pump down to help the automatic slacks adjust. Takes all of two or three mins total, no excuses.

The "no heat" thing can be something as simple as the valves on a heater hose to the fire wall.
